Back to Pregnancy Week by Week Guide

With the completion of your 15th week of pregnancy, the fourth month coming to an end, the doctor might ask you to go through a number of tests. This is to find out whether your child is fine or has any chromosomal abnormalities. Read up more about them and then go ahead and get the tests done without any delay.

Changes in Your Body at Week 16 Pregnancy

The look of your breasts will keep changing as you finish 16 and move to 17 weeks of being pregnant.  As the mammary glands continue with the production of milk, the veins become visible.

At 16 weeks of pregnancy some of you will feel pain in your backs. The increased weight of the womb causes this. Just hang in there.

Your Baby’s Development at Week 16 Pregnancy

Your baby can now hold her head up on her own.

The baby’s genitals are also developed and your doctor will be able to tell you whether it is a boy or a girl with the help of a sonogram.

You might experience a wonderful thing during your ultrasound. You can see your baby holding her hand over eyes. This is to protect her from the harsh lights.

The little one now breathes in and out, thereby inhaling and exhaling the amniotic fluid that surrounds it.

At 16 weeks of pregnancy the functioning urinary and circulatory system helps the baby to pump blood.

She also begins to build fat under her skin. This acts as insulation.

Week 16 Pregnancy Tips and Advice

Talk to your doctor about any pain that you might be experiencing. He will be able to check you and tell you whether it is just due to the weight of your abdomen or something more serious internally.

Do buy yourself proper supportive bras to accommodate your growing and tender breasts. Without these, they will begin to sag, and more so after child birth.

Drink lots of water and avoid spicy food and caffeine to avoid bladder infections during this time. Know what other foods is good and bad for you in our guide to managing pregnancy.

Week 16 Fun

Many customs don’t allow it, but if it is allowed, then go shopping for the baby and do up its nursery. You won’t get much time, or even have the energy after she is born.

At 16 weeks of pregnancy plan the long pending baby-moon. Go for a holiday with your spouse and enjoy this time. However do ask your doctor if the travel – the hours and the mode – is permissible or not before you finalize your plans.
