In South India, it is a tradition in most homes to have Golu or Kolu during Navratri. It is an arrangement of various dolls and figurines in odd (usually 7, 9, or 11) numbered tiers (padis).
Those who set-up Golu in their homes invite family and friends during those nine nights to come see their arrangement. People who come to see Golu are usually given Kumkum, Prasad that is mostly Sundal (offered to God that day) and a small goodie bag as return gift.
