However new ones like cramps and unmanageable emotions begin to surface. Don’t fret, for these too will pass. Find out more in our eBook: Short Guide to Managing pregnancy.

Changes in Your Body at Week 22 Pregnancy

At 22 weeks of pregnancy, you might notice varicose veins at this stage. These occur if you stand in one position for a long period of time. These are enlarged veins that fill up with blood and appear as bluish purple lines mostly on the feet and legs.

Your growing baby will be pushing your abdominal muscles apart. So you might notice a small bulge in the middle when you lie down. This can cause skin irritation. Relieve yourself off this discomfort by applying cocoa butter.

Your Baby’s Development at Week 22 Pregnancy

The new thing this week onward and into the 23 weeks of pregnancy too is that you will be able to feel the baby’s kicks pretty frequently.

At 22 weeks of pregnancy, the baby is still very thin at this stage. This is because of the lack of fatty tissues on its body. But these will develop very soon.

While the skin is still very wrinkly, the internal organs are developing fast.

Although its eyes have formed fully, the iris still lacks the pigment.

When the red blood cells break down inside the baby’s body, it produces bilirubin. The baby’s liver is developed enough now to produce enzymes to break down this bilirubin in turn.  However, since the fetal red blood cells have a lower life span the production of bilirubin is quite high. That bilirubin which the baby’s liver can’t beak down, passes into the mother’s blood through the placenta. It is then broken down by the enzymes from the mother’s liver.

If you are having a girl, then her ovaries and uterus is fully formed by now.

The baby begins to learn about touch and begins to touch its face and neck.

At 22 weeks of pregnancy the baby teeth have also formed and are waiting inside the gums. The baby also begins to differentiate between sweet and  bitter tastes.

Week 22 Pregnancy Tips and Advice

As people realize that you are pregnant, some might have the tendency to touch your belly. If you are uncomfortable then do voice your thoughts out loud. It is important for you to feel comfortable and not stressed out about anything at this stage.

Since you can still walk around fairly easily, do finish all your shopping and all the hard work that’s pending regarding the baby’s nursery.

At 22 weeks of pregnancy, drink a lot of water throughout the day. This will help in the production of the extra blood that’s needed for your child and also reduce the headaches that you are otherwise most likely to experience at this stage of your pregnancy. Keep a watch on your urine (it should be odourless) and report to the doctor in case you feel itchy or any foul smell in the urine.

Week 22 Fun

Check into a hotel room near your home – just for the fun of it. Then explore the city that you live in as a tourist would. It will be enjoyable and your home and your doctor is also just a few minutes’ drive away; so there is nothing to fear either.

Call all your girl friends and spend an evening playing all your favorite childhood board games. Some snacks and juices and it sure can become a lot of fun.
