Hi, my mom is coming to my place in August. This time, unlike other times - She has more time, money set aside and interest to shop things for me. I am trying to make a list.

Apart from Short Kurthis, few salwars and matching jewelry for me and similar stuff for my 4 yr old daughter (along with my mom's yummy pickles), I cannot think of many.

My question is - what things did you get from India that you really loved/used a lot. Please add them to my list if you have any (and if possible please suggest where my mom can find them in Hyderabad).
Please also include suggestions about clothes and jewelery - types etc.

    Here goes my List..

    1. Spoon/Button Idli plates
    2. Punukulu plate
    3. HandBag or a clutch purse that goes with many Sarees (for parties here)
    4.

pressure cookers (I love the new handi shaped pressure cookers)

    tadka spoons (from big bazaar)

eating spoons (cheaper in india, I brought 2 dozen last time)

    hot case(pots) - for keeping chappatis/curries warm

steel water jug (they have really stylish ones in india)

rectangular small steel plates with 2/3 sections - perfect for serving small snacks at a party

    house decorations / handicraft items

plastic cricket bat ball set for your kid (good for gift giving too)

I also got lots of indian ethnic clothes for kids (200-300 rupees each). made a list of all upcoming birthdays of my friends' kids and bought the sizes accordingly - these make wonderful and unique gifts.

a word of caution on the pickles - they were checking suitcases very carefully when I came from India last month and asking specifically if you had pickes or jeera or garam masala. and fining people on the spot if they were found.
