    Hello Ladies,

I was going thru the magazine, FEMINA FIGURE WATCHERS BOOK & in the dessert section, I saw this recipe, DATE & PISTACHIO PARFAIT, It has two parts - one, making of brandy snap baskets & other, chocolate cream.
It looked interesting but one of the ingredinet for making the brandy snap basket is, GOLDEN SYRUP - 500 ml.
I checked in Nilgiri's and they don't seem to have it. I don't know what this syrup is all about. I did call a few more stores here but they ask me what this is made of & the marketing compnay's name.

If you know anything about this product, pls reply immediately.

I've come across this ingredient in few of Tarla Dalal's recipes tooo.

    Any idea Ladies????

    Love,

    Dear Meena....

    Hope you got my reply?

It is a syrup made from cane sugar and widely used in the UK. Do try substituting with honey, honey:)

    Dear Chitra,

thanks a lot for the links to golden syrup
wonder where it'll be available in India???
atleast if I get the marketing company's name, I can ask the local dealers to try and get one for me... Or probably substitute it with honey.
anyway, I shall check on that - thank you again.

Oh yes, I got your reply.
I read it first and then came here.
thanks a lot. Let me see if someone can get me more details specially on which company markets the same here in India.
If no luck, then I'll use honey instead. Have got a full bottle of coorg honey sitting in my shelf.
    thanks a lot.

    Love,

    Meena,
Just mailed you the info. Yes Honey is a good substitute. Or try pancake syrup if youget it there. Or a mix of treacle and plain corn syrup.

    Dear Meena,
you forgot our own vella paagu (jaggery syrup). That can be substituted for golden syrup. This from Mrs.Chandri Bhatt who is a cookery expert.
