    Hi Uma,

Is that a wood carving (in the shape of a snail?) that I see at the top of the mandapam???

Did he attend any classes to learn how to use the tools needed to make woodwork? Sorry if that seems like a dumb question - it is my dream to design my own furniture and accessories for my small house - but my husband is neither handy nor interested in learning to be handy, so it is my job to learn carpentry!

    Thanks,

    -M

Yes its a sort of a snail shape. I got it, to add a look of gopuram (kumbam to be precise).

He didn't attend any carpentry class. In US its pretty easy if you have the right tool set. Indeed he ended up buying a saw, planer and whole bunch of nails, clippers etc for this one. Anyway we'll be using them in our next project.

There should be local colleges conducting carpentry courses, they seemed to be pretty interesting though :) No worry if you set your minds to it, you can get it done. My DH started from nowhere and he can do this within 4 days of time. All it takes is time and dedication that's about it.

Good luck Mayalatha, for your project to start soon :thumbsup

Malyatha: also check at your local BOCES for a course....might be a lot cheaper than at the college. You can also go to library and check Fine Woodworking Magazine copies and obviously there will be books. But finding some local handy type friend is often the easiest route of all.
