plants in small place

Hi all,
we have a very small standing balcony, and I want to grow a few flower plants there.Which are the ones which looks good, occupy less space, easy for a less experienced person to plant and grow.
Also I was planning to have hanging flower plants I am not sure if it is possible?
Plus I also have some space near my kitchen window where I want to grow curry leaves, any other options?

Please suggest.
