They are a huge drain (literally!) on water. They are unnecessary anywhere, not just India.

However, they do not contribute to minimizing water for hydro power generation.
I completely agree with you that they should not be used.

Absolutely not required. A bath refreshes body and mind, not the bucket or the bath tub. it is pure luxury. It is our children who is going to stay in the planet after us, so let us conserve not only water, but all natural resources.

This awareness has to be taught to the children by parents while teaching them to walk, read, write and to speak and by teachers at school irrespective of the subject they teach.

Let us all join our hands in reducing the pollution and handover a safe, fertile and healthy earth to our successors.

:exactly: Mira. We have to handover a healthy and safe planet - Our Earth to the future generations. And it is the responsibility of every citizen to conserve all the resources for future generations.

Yes Chivkula and when will the citizens of this planet realise that it is not something which can be postponed like "will see, when the situation arise".

Combined but individual effort is the need of the hour. Will the global citizens unite in this issue?

i found this discussion quiet useless on thie forum..

the subject is pretty strange....why specifically INDIA in the subjectline....if it's not required it's for the whole world and not just india

it can be an important discussion for other countries...but i doubt if more than 1% population in india can even afford a bathtub....this discussion is apt for people staying in foriegn lands where they use bathtubs for bath...and bundles of toilet rolls for cleaning themselves...wastage of both water and paper...
not to mention the petrol wastage on huge sedans and SUVs owned by many people for single use

for those who believe in luxury and can afford it won't really need suggestions from others...they would buy it anyways

    Little drops of water
    Little words (deeds) of kindness
    Make the mighty ocean
    And the heaven above

Each and every drop of water counts a lot in the conservation of water.
Being Indians, our main concern is - conservation of our natural resources for the future generations.

Totally agree, bath tubs, dish washers, western toilets(with no proper limit set on the amount of water used for each flush) are nothing more than a expensive luxury which we can do without. It is so sad to see so much water being wasted without a worry about what will be left in the future.
On a positive note, while we were staying at Hyderabad last year at my husband's company guest house, they were recycling the used water and thus conserving so many gallons on a yearly basis. Wish the technology becomes more widespread and affordable across the country :thumbsup
