    Hi

I am new to the group. I subscribe to the idea of ethical treatment of animals and hence do not use silk, leather and other animal derived products. I recently read in a magazine that Mysore silk was not real 'silk', i.e., that it is not made from silkworms, but is actually synthetic silk. I sent the query to the KSIC website and did not receive any response from them. Does anyone know about this ? Similarly, what about silk cotton ? Does it contain real silk ?

    Thanks
    Rathi

Generally Mysore silk is from silworms. But as always, there is a version of Mysore silk that is totally synthetic. And - pure silk is expensive, synthetic is not - So if they are selling what seems like a good quality silk for cheap price - go for it - its synthetic :D

I fully agree with you . I also dont use any product made by killing animals - silk leather
the silver paper foil used in sweets are made out of the gut of calves
the silver foil is not adding any value in terms of taste or flavour then why it is being used in sweets

instead of silk you can wear cotton sarees which is elegant

I don't like Kancheepuram silk because of it is made out of insects killing.

I prefer Cotton always which is elegant.

    Hi Saikripa,
silver foil is not made from calf, the silver is kept inside some part of the buffalo (after it is killed) and then it is pressed well to enlarge that piece of silver foil, to make ti a thin as possible.

    Hi Rathi,
silk cotton contains silk and cotton in a particular ratio, it is also made from silk only.
