    Hi felonopsis.

Could you please explain about brown rice?
How is the taste after cooking?
    Is it easy to cook?
I am thinking to start eating brown rice but don't know much about it. Is it white rice but without any processing? Is it healthier than white rice for weight loss?

    Hi Kalcandu,

Brown rice- Whole grain, just the husk removed
White rice- Brown rice is further milled to remove the bran+ most of the germ

Brown rice has less calories, nutrient dense as the bran and germ are still intact. Since its a whole grain, you cant eat more but keeps you filled for a long time. Though not a perfect example, try to relate with the wheat that you ground in the mill to get wheat atta and maida, which is the refined wheat.

Took the below stats from net..

Twice the manganese and phosphorus as white
    2 ½ times the iron3 times vitamin B3
    4 times the vitamin B1
    10 times the vitamin B6

picture for your reference. Nowadays you get this in all supermarkets and even the whole sale rice trading shops. You just have to develop a taste for it as we are use to white rice. Its not very bad in taste but little bit chewy. I am a rice person. cant resist without eating rice. This is a non-sinful rice as i dont have to repent after eating. So am 100% OK with its taste :)

Soak it for half an hour. add five glasses of water to 1 glass of rice. Put your cooker in sim, it will take 25-30 minutes to cook. Perfectly cooked brown rice will be as in picture 2. After one or two trails you will get it right.

Hope i have given you a idea ..

Thanks felonopsis, for the detailed reply.

The pictures and cooking instructions were very helpful. The rice does look dense. I too am a rice person and having started this low carb diet, daily i am subconsciously thinking about eating rice ;)

I am so surprised that when natural rice has so many nutrients, why we get polished, processed rice in market. It is like they are killing us. And finally when we go to doctor, they say oh you have this deficiency, you have that deficiency... :(

In my house during my childhood, mom and grandma used to buy wheat from shop and get it ground into atta in mill. Nowadays they have also started using readymade atta for convenience and taste. I feel so bad how our generation is suffering due to pesticide sprayed fruits and veggies and processed food. I guess it is all for the taste factor that wheat and rice are being processed. :pensive:
