    Dear All ,
I have been researching and trying, testing, experimenting a lot of stuff to go green. Going green not only is great for the planet but saves us a lot of money too. I sincerely hope you do your bit and help spread the word so that we have a planet which is alive with life and can be enjoyed for many more generations. Listed below is the recipe for making a home made dish washer detergent (in liquid and powder form). The liquid one is a little pricey but the powder one is economical (the saving are huge!!). Both do a great job.

    dishwashing liquid soap
2 cups of liquid castille oil
    Citrus essential oil- 6 drops
    1/2 cup distilled water
Mix the above and store in your used liquid soap container.2 tbsp of this will suffice for your dishwasher. In your rinse compartment add white vinegar.

    Dishwashing powder version
    1 cup borax
    1 cup super washing soda
    1/2 cup citric acid
    1/2 cup kosher salt
Again mix the above and store in a container. 2 tbsp of this suffices too
Fill rinse agent compartment with white vinegar

In addition to the above here is the method to make a homemade all purpose cleaner. Again the first one listed here is a little pricey(more so due to the castille oil and essential oil) and the latter one is the green mean machine. They again do a great job for cleaning tiles ,counter tops, floor or any surface

    All purpose cleaner- pricey version
    1.5 cups vinegar
    1.5 cups distilled water
    1/2 cup castille oil
8 drops of citrus essential oil
Mix all of the above and pour into a spraying container. Shake and begin to use

All purpose cleaner- highly economical version
    1.5 cups vinegar
    1.5 cups distilled water
Mix both of this and pour into a spraying container. Use. If you need some more power (due to oil spills or cleaning the stoves etc) sprinkle some baking soda over them and then this spray

I am also trying out some green version of laundry detergents. I will post them once I test them out. Hoping that we all use lesser plastic , respect resources and help save the planet

Do try the above and let me know
    Power to green ! :cheers

    Hi Athreys,
Thanks I will try out the vinegar +water combination to clean my bathroom tiles.
Will get back to you with the results.
Any 'green' idea for cleaning steel baffle filters of electric chimney?
Castille oil, Kosher salt are these easily available in India?
By white vinegar do you mean synthetic vinegar?

    apologize for the delay sindhumanoj
i hope the water vinegar worked. It works like a charm for me
I am not sure if you get castille oil....you can substitute it with a generic fragrance free liquid soap. But I think you should be able to get kosher salt...if not use normal salt.
    yes white vinegar is synthetic
