Has anyone built a raised garden bed? I need help in figuring out the best soil to put and also how to protect crop from squirrels and other critters.

The house we are renting has a decent backyard but the soil is really bad. I've grown some summer crops such as tomatoes, brinjals, zuchhini, beans and cucumbers with success in large pots this summer. But the quantity that is grown in pots is small, I want to build a raised garden bed to grow winter veggies since the weather here is so mild during winters (carrots, beets, spinach, lettuce and radish).

    Please let me know !

    Thanks,

    Pooja

Pooja, triple mix soil (mix of peat, soil and compost) is the best for veggies. I use this for my veggie garden and they thrive. Check with your nursery; they will sure have a triple mix soil.

I have never tried this but if the nursery suggested then it must be good. Good luck with the gardening. Its a rewarding experience to see the veggies grow :thumbsup.
