    Hi,

I own a house site of 3500 sq ft in which we are planning to plant trees (dont want to leave site empty, someone may occupy the land). Need some thin and tall tress to plan in the boundaries of site and some shady trees to plant in the road

Water is available and we need ideas on the list of trees that can be planted.

I could think of Ashoka trees in plot boundaries.

Any ideas of what are the plants that can planted near a house and suggestions....

    Thanks
    Priya.

This probably comes rather late. However, pongamia glabra (honge in Kannada) is a very good roadside tree. The breeze it carries is supposedly good for health. Honge is used for skin ailments and arthritis. The tree doesn't grow really large. Also the Portia / Bhendi tree is a smaller tree ideal for smaller roads.

Among flowering trees, Mother of cocoa tree (Glicirdia sepium) is lovely with it's pink flowers as also the queen's Flower tree (Lagerstroemia speciosa) with it's pruple flowers.

For the boundary, Millingtonia Hortensis, Indian cork tree (Akash mallige in Kannada) would be a good choice since the tree is tall and does not have a wide canopy when fully grown. As you said the Ashoka tree (Polyalthia longifolia) is a tall tree whose branches do not spread out.

Lalbagh has a lot of trees both big and small. Do visit it once and take a walk inside. It is amazing to see the number lovely trees there are.
