I am sharing some thing very interesting which may help you all to maintain your kitchen garden or balcony garden with no extra efforts. You only need to use the wastage of your kitchen for the health of your plants. This way you are also contributing to keep your surroundings clean.

[/FONT][FONT=&quot]Step-7 :[/FONT][FONT=&quot]Put 500 gm of waste ( family of 4 persons) in the 1[/FONT][FONT=&quot]St[/FONT][FONT=&quot] pot
[/FONT][FONT=&quot]Step-8 :[/FONT][FONT=&quot]Next day 500 gm of waste in the 2[/FONT][FONT=&quot]nd[/FONT][FONT=&quot] pot. 3[/FONT][FONT=&quot]rd[/FONT][FONT=&quot] day in the 3[/FONT][FONT=&quot]rd[/FONT][FONT=&quot] pot & [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] so on……[/FONT][FONT=&quot]
[/FONT][FONT=&quot]Step-9 :[/FONT][FONT=&quot]On 8[/FONT][FONT=&quot]th[/FONT][FONT=&quot] day again you can put 500 gm of waste in the 1[/FONT][FONT=&quot]st[/FONT][FONT=&quot] pot. [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Then 9[/FONT][FONT=&quot]th[/FONT][FONT=&quot] day in the 2[/FONT][FONT=&quot]nd[/FONT][FONT=&quot] pot [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] Step – 10 :[/FONT][FONT=&quot] Like this you can continue the cycle[/FONT][FONT=&quot]. [/FONT][FONT=&quot]No smell whatsoever.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Note :[/FONT][FONT=&quot]Water the plants normally. It will take about 6 MONTHS to fill up the space of 3” in the pot. 500 gms of [/FONT][FONT=&quot]waste goes into each pot once in 7 days. Plants start getting the benefit of manure in 3- 4 weeks time & they grow extremely well.

[FONT=&quot]4.[/FONT] Plant saplings of your favorite flowers or vegetables.

i make compost with them
i dont know about
bio catalyst
in any case i dont add
any chemical base

I wish I could own this garden. This is something I discovered while surfing net. just thought of sharing with all my friends on Indusladies. However I have started trying this for my balcony garden too.

Bio catalyst is something which help wastage get turn into compost in a speedy manner and without creating any foul smell around.it is available at the chemist shops or nursery.

Anyways can you plz share how do you use the wastage of kitchen to make compost without using any chemical.

Loved ur post!! Really in today's life, bio-organically grown veggies and fruits are really important otherwise god knows what ingredients do we end up eating all the fertilized and pesticided stuff!!

One question - does this compost smell bad?????? :hide:

Also, did u grow a papaya on ur terrance!!!!!! I am amzed! and that a pumpkin that I see? Wow!

Dear Viny
nice post. Your post reminded me my childhood days. We had a lovely garden in our home and my mother always used the vegetable / organic waste in growing plants in the garden instead of throwing it. I still follow this practice of disposing organic waste in the garden so that the plants use the nutrients and have a healthy growth.

Dear Gayatri It does not smell bad at all... Instead it help preventing the foul smell around. These pictures of somebody's hose in Delhi. You can always give a try at your roof. Papaya doesn't have hard & long roots penetrated inside the soil so I thik you can grow it on roof as shown in the picture.

dear viny

if you have a huge garden
composting is pretty easy
but if space is small
perhaps you can try out
a small can perforated here and there
add kitchen waste
no non veg items
except maybe egg shells
i don't know i''m veg
a little cow dung
say perhaps once a week
and a few earthworms
from a nearby wet place
a shade with some coconut fronds
the compost should be wet
but not too soggy
turn things over say once in 15 days
and in about two months time
you should get good compost for plants

alternatively you can have the seven pot method
have seven pots
add kitchen waste to one pot a day
say half kg of waste from a normal nuclear family
(vegetable and fruit wastes)
if you mash waste it disintegrates faster
call them monday tue etc....
and this is also a sure way to get kitchen waste
to compost fast
in any case it takes 45 days minimum

Hi,
I have a large terrace but am not able to do much gardening. I go out of town often and I do not have anyone to water the plants during my absence. My plants wither due to this . I want to have a few veg and fruit plants too. At present, I am having some flower plants, tulsi, rose plants etc. in pots in the terrace. I will try this method as far as I could and let you know.
