Satchi, the person who died in Pune was also my friend's classmate in college. Very sad. Lauki is being tooted for weightloss and health these days. When you mix with fruits or carrots bittness is masked. You dont even realize. Truly till now I didnt even know lauki can be bitter. For the first time , i tasted bitter snake gourd/pudalangai few months ago. Weird thing is after making curry realized it was bitter. But I felt bad to waste. So ate it.

Know what you mean Chandrika. It is not seldom that cucumbers and some veggies taste bitter and one finds out only after cooking. I try to eat it up so I don't waste it unless of course it is inedible. This news has now changed my mind and shall be very aware hence forth.

Finally! Managed to go to the farm today and check it out. Here is my first harvest.

First harvest from Farmizen - IL.jpg

Each row L to R: Aragula, Basil, Corriander, Gongura, Kale, Lettuce, Radish and Spinach

    A-Z of harvest - IL.jpg
Other plants still growing. Bottle gourd seems to be a bit of a problem. It will have to be reseeded. If it still does not grow, will add another vegetable.

So, basil and corriander for pesto, gongura for thokku, spinach, argula, radish leaves, palak for green veg, radish for paratha ..... any exciting ideas for kale? Is it very bitter?

Beautiful harvest Satchi! Kale is very fibrous and doesn't wilt like spinach. It takes a lot longer to cook than most other greens. I have cooked it in dal/sambar, and used minced kale, spinach and mustard greens to make a version of sarson ka saag. A simple and delicious recipe is kale sauteed with minced garlic and lots of olive oil, salt and pepper. If you harvest the younger leaves you can use them raw in salads. As @Shanvy mentioned, air-fried kale chips are the bees knees these days. You will find dozens of recipes on Pinterest.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions Gauri and Shanvy. Let me see what I can make of it. The chips sounds good and quick.
