Thanks for the first fb, Lalitha. I did notice those links at the bottom and I purposely left it for others to check it out further, if interested.

I wish, we women, know ourselves better before trying to understand or please others.

Geeta Ji, Thank you for sharing this. Most of it is very true and applies to all of us. Don’t you think modern Indian women have a different set of issues. Making my list here :

    A) Expected to be equal to men when it comes to being educated, getting a job and earning money. The rules are very different when it comes to household chores like cooking and cleaning.

    B) Expected to be a good DIL, good wife, good mother at all times no questions asked.

    C) Being opinionated is not a choice however well read and educated one is.
A opinionated woman means being a bad woman.

    D) Success in life is totally defined by her role as a wife and a mother. All the education and success in the world is of no value if she has not married or had kids.

    E) Cooking skills are reflective of how efficient and capable a indian woman is. Not knowing how to cook is considered a weakness for women. She can be the boss at work but the kitchen is her domain. She is not the queen there though. It is ok to be critized for her cooking skills.

    F) She has to follow traditions and customs as imposed upon by her family and husband’s family. Saying No to something that she does not believe in would be blasphemy.

    G) Her monthly periods still dictate if she will pursue her religion or attend a religious gathering . Does not matter what she thinks.

    H) Seeking divorce in an unhappy marriage means she is a bad woman. It is always her fault. She has to adjust and keep the marriage going however unhappy she is . ( this stems from my experience on this forum, I recently got called a divorce loving lawyer by a man because I suggested something along those lines. For a modern woman this is very surprising and disappointing . Things really have not changed in that aspect ).

Sorry I went on and on. Some of these are my experiences and experiences of others. I think Indian women have it the worst.
However modern we women might be the change will not happen unless men change their mindset. As a mother I am raising my sons to know that women and men are equal. I hope they will not disappoint me.

    Dear Manisha,

    Good points, Thanks for sharing.

We are a part of the patriarchal system. Some rules were laid down ages back and it is getting diluted over a period, still, the struggle is on for women. I did touch a bit on this topic in Men Vs. Women.

It is difficult for the man and his family to give in easily breaking the mould; you see it is a question of survival for them too. So, we have to silently change our strategies and ourselves. Let us prioritise our selves!

You don't have to apologise for airing your views.:)

Please read the other links in this article; they do alert and encourage us to change for our own good.

    Good article !
Few more points from my side
1.Want a Susheel sanskari bahu But should work and earn good money.
    2. DIL should take care of her husbands family but not her own parents and also take permission to visit her own family.
3.Woman must give details for the money spent inspite of she earning but husband need not share his financial details.
    4. Since you are a woman no matter if you are a manager or CEO , you need to come home and slog in kitchen and take care of the house.
    5. Husband can point out mistakes of wife , but if wife highlights mistake done by husband or his parents then World War 3 is for sure.
    6. No matter what after marriage woman should give up all / most of her desires. First priority is her family and only then comes herself
    7. Since you are a woman you got to compromise or sacrifice no matter what
    8. If a woman wear modern clothes after marriage then she is not sanskaari bahu. Really?? There are many pilots/ air hostess , Woman in police department etc who wear Shirt and trousers and earn well , aren’t they taking care of their family ? How sanskaari is for the elders to judge woman based on her dressing sense. Dressing is a personal choice .
Let her wear what she is comfortable with, be it saree or salwar , why forcing their opinions on her!
    9. After marriage if you don’t keep bindi, no mangalsutra or toe rings then you are the worst woman on earth.
10.If woman raise any voice against discrimination or injustice then she is a feminist!!
11.If a woman is not able to conceive then she is a sinner.
    12. They need woman for everything from marriage to taking care of the house but if a woman gives birth to a girl
    then torture her like hell.
13.Finally woman can’t live like a woman but like a slave / puppet after marriage.

PS : May be all the woman out there are not facing each and every problem in the list above , but atleast some of them are definitely facing them
