We do a lot of learning online by ourselves. Material is available as videos and transcripts of the videos. Reading books, articles - we can read a book or article, or listen to the audio version. Listening can be done at times one cannot read, such as while driving. Question: You prefer listening to material or reading it? Are you fine with both, or strongly prefer one method over the other? What do you like or dislike about each method?
I have tried listening, but it didn't work at all. I need to be able to skim over material and fast forward through some parts - hard to that when listening. The narrator is always too slow for my taste. Though, some videos have the option of playing at higher/lower speeds and that helps a bit. As does the simple feature of being able to fast forward in 15 second chunks.
If I say I enjoy video materials, would rih ji upload her video, with her face & voice, next time she starts a new thread?
Definitely reading Rihana! If I am driving listening to any book, I stop driving only when the book ends finding myself in places I do not know and definitely not intended to go when I set out in the first place. Between video and listening, listening it is. Videos are strictly limited to movies/TV! So horrible no?
I like to learn visually. So definitely video recordings is my first choice. To learn S/w related tools/ technologies I use all video materials. I have listened to audiobooks while driving. This needs undisturbed attention. Next is ibooks!
I prefer text. Gives my ADD brain some rest. Also I'm a slow learner. I need to write things for them to register in my head. I make copious notes of everything I read. Unless the narration is particularly gripping, audiobooks are wasted on me. I get lost in my head and tune out the voice. I've started to really like video-based learning. I play-pause-write-repeat. Allows me to learn at my pace. Takes me 10 minutes to get through a 2 minute video, but I like being able to stop, think and go back to it. Better than many of the classroom lectures I remember!
Not horrible at all! I also prefer videos only for movies/TV or some hard to fix/repair household project.
I also make notes, and that too handwritten notes. Though, with the need for imbibing of knowledge or info to be sped up, I do it for more important ones only now. True. And just humbling to count how many are out there on how many topics!
Reading(text) for fiction. It help in imagining the scene as I read. Audio is too distracting and sometimes takes away from the script. For demos ,projects etc ...video. Audio is lost on me....I find it irritating.
