You and me at Madurai I wanted to present you the golden lotus But, it is chained at the Meenakshi temple I wanted to paint you on a huge pillar But, the gates of Naik palace are closed I wanted to take you on a boat ride But, boys are playing cricket at Teppakulam I wanted to show you Kallaalgar at pazhamuthircholai But, they say he has left to meet his sister at Madurai I wanted to get away from Madurai with you But, elephant, cow, snake etc. are lying as mountains on the way
Who wants the golden lotus? I need your “hrudaya kamalam” ! Who wants to be painted on a pillar ? Do etch me on your thoughts ! Who wants the boat ride? I want to hug you tight on your mobike! Who wants to meet Kallalagar? Let us spend time when He is not there ! Who wants to leave Madurai and come? Let us live our life in the temple city !
Dear Chitvish, Your pathil kavithai is nice. Actually, I wanted to bring out my disappointments of comparing old Madurai and Madurai when I visited recently. I do feel a pang in the heart to see the golden lotus chained, naik palace closed ( when I was studying in St.mary's High School I remember the gates always open and we used to go to the top to have an aerial view of madurai) and no water in Teppakulam( I do remember the Teppa thiruvizha and the times when we have gone by boats to the Mayya manapam). Regards, TDU
Dear Tamil, Why compare at all ? As somebody said, the only phenomenon that does not change is change ! It is inevitable, that in every sphere of life The old order changeth yielding place to new. I bow to it. I had been to Madurai last week. To me, it is sheer nostalgia & very enjoyable too. Puthumandapm has not changed, infact it is a very nice mini shoppers' paradise for Maduraites like me. Meenakshi is as graceful as she ever was. In Alagarkovil, monkeys have grown manyfold ! In spite of expansion, Madurai has not lost its charm. Where else, other than in my hometown, can I hear the words, ஆமாமுங்கம்மா, சரிங்கம்மா, செங்சுப்புடலாமுங்கம்மா, நல்லதுங்கம்மா. Honestly, I leave my town with a very heavy heart everytime !! Love, Chithra.
Dear Chitra, I enjoyed the exchange of poem for a poem that was fun reading. At the same time yuor reply to Tamil,s reply was philosophical as well as positive in approach. Rgds, Malathi
Dear Malathy, Welcome to I L . My greetings on interacting with you for the first time. I like all your posts, but have less time on my hands to write to you ! I just write what I honestly feel . Do we not change from a baby to child, adult, young woman.... so on & so forth ? Do we cling to any one stage in life? I have trained myself to appreciate the beauty in everything I see & in every concept in every sphere of life. Otherwise we will be depressed & depress others also ! Looking for the good in everything is what I believe in, Malathy . Am I confusing you more? - I hope not, my friend ! Love, Chithra.
