    Dear Friends
Few days back I bought a pack of yellow split peas as I mistook it as chana daal. I didn't realise that it was not chana daal but split peas until I opened the pack. So I couldn't return it to the grocer after opening the pack.

How can these yellow split peas be used ? Any recipes using these split peas, so that these can be used without wastage ??
Please help me out in this regard.

    Hi,

You can do soups with it, with addition of any vegetables this is optional.

1/2 cup of beans ( boil it or pressure cook it)
    200 ml of water
    Tumeric powder
    Salt to taste
    Jaggery to taste
For Tadka, use oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, astifoeda, ginger garlic
    Garnish with Coriander and coconut.

    OPtion 1:
    1. Put Dal, water, tumeric powder, jaggery, salt together and pressure cooker it.
    2. Remove once cooked and take it in pan and boil it for few min.
    3. You granish it butter, coriander & coconut (This is optional, if you want more tasty add it) and Serve with rice.
    OPtion 2:
    1. Put dal, water, salt and pressurize it.
    2. In pan, heat oil and put mustard seed, cumin seeds, ginger, garlic pieces, tumeric, coriander, cook it.
    3. Add dal, jaggery and boil it.
    4. GArnish it with coconut and butter and serve it.
NOTE: If you like soups, you can do different variations by adding vegetables ( methi, spinach, etc)

    I hope this helps.

I think you bought matar dal? You can make a nice dal out of it :) Also you can mix it with any greens that you prepare.

Some also make the dal vada with this. I personally did not like the taste of it  but you can give it a try..

You can make a nice soup which you simmer for an hour or so or you can use a slow cooker. You can add veg like carrot chunks, tomato pieces, sliced cabbage, and season with salt, black pepper, marjoram or use Indian seasonings.

At the health food store here they make a very very good soup mix that is equal parts of yellow split peas, green split peas, whole lentils, split red lentils, brown rice and some American wild rice.
