Withdrawing NSC while abroad?

Hi All,

We have taken NSC certificate when we were in India and after that we moved to US 2 years back.Next year it is 6 years since we took the certificate and it will be matured.Initially we had plans to go to India at the time of its maturity but now because of this recession there will be prblm for visa..we have to cancel the trip.

My question is,
Is there any way we can withdraw the amount being in US?
or any other authorized person can do so on our behalf?

You cannot withdraw it from US. You have to authorize someone to collect it on your behalf..... you have to write letter to post master requesting someone to collect NSC on your behalf...

Hereby I authorize my xxx , Mr/ms . to receive the cheque (or cash) for National Savings Certificate (NSC) on my behalf.

I am currently residing outside India and I cannot come personally to receive the cheque myself. So, I’d appreciate if you can kindly give the cheque (or cash) for NSC to my xxx, as per this authorization.

Hi Saraswathi,
If you have bank a/c in India,you can send your NSC to that bank and
request them to realise the proceeds of NSC. Your bankers will collect
the money and it will be in your a/c. They charge nominally for their
services.
