was wondering how winter will be?
do people go out? are grocery stores open? are outlets for shopping open?
many many questions in my head right now :hide:

It will be very cold.. I think winter starts in November.. :bowdown by end of October you will need a decent size fall jacket..

Tons of sweaters, scarf is important, gloves, hat and boots to walk in the big puddles of snow..

It will last about 6 months.. or like this year around 8 months...:rant

I must say, NY is a winterwonderland.. the mornings when it snows, right before people start shoveling and moaning about commuting, its the most serene picture you could imagne.. snow capped houses and cars, white little flurries falling, its beautiful to just watch.. then you get snapped back into reality!!!

But I like it, Christmas/New Year when it snows, its just perfect!! If there is a blizzard, its even more prettier, but then you have to clean up and the days following a snow storm, the sun will be out in full force, so there will be quite a bit of black ice, so walking, driving can get treacherous.. most of the supermarkerts will be wiped out clean days before a storm as most people stock up on pantry items and water and stuff.. but all in all, it will be come second nature for you.. people switch into summer/winter mode pretty fast..

just invest in a really good shovel and a good de icer.. you will be good to go!!!

Everything is business as usual.. snow is part of the whole NY living, so nothing really stops things from moving..

lol did anyone mention that sometimes it doesn't end till may (few years ago it snowed in may in ALB!) - welcome to hell :). but don't worry, activity levels are still high. it might get disappointing for first timers, so prepare for that. that aside, it can be very very pretty. walk carefully though :)
