Why do we light a lamp ?

    Reading about our rituals n the meaning behind it is beautiful also your explanation,

    Aruna, over a period of time, you will start chanting them spontaneously, when you light a lamp. :)

    Dear chitra mami, I just discovered this thread recently. I am speechless. This is an ocean of information. I do not know where to start. I now truly believe that u r God's child. An angel sent to earth to distribute this knowledge to ignorant souls like me.
    I know it will take a long time for me to go thru this information but with ur blessings I will definitely do it.

    I just saw your great work in this forum.No words to express our heartfelt thanks & gudoos to you,
    I have got few doubts, Can you please clear it?
    1.Can I keep the pooja medai in a closed cup-board in kitchen?All are telling me, sinse we cook Non-veg I must not keep Gods in the kitchen. don't like to keep in bedroom. I cannot keep in hall Since even othert religion people visit us.
    2. I don't know the directions( the compass shows diagonally). So I light 1 Kamakshi deepam & 1 kerala type deepam facing up.Is that OK:?
    I have both green & karunt thulasi at the backyard-Which is to be worshipped? I light deepam in the morning 1 st in the pooja room & then near thulasi outside Is that right
    I know i am truubling you much, but I could not control myself.

    You can definitely keep in a cupboard in kitchen.
    Don't bother too much about the direction et al - attitude & devotion only count.
    You can worship any tulsi -no problem. Yes, what you are doing is right.
