I grew up in a small town,India and I went to school regardless of the weather and dinner time was at 8:00PM, family prayers 9pm and bed was 10PM

Eating out at a restaurant was a huge deal, that only really happened when it was a very special occasion.

There was no such thing as Fast food and having a bottle of coke or a Large milkshake from the milk bar was a real treat.

You took your school clothes off as soon as you got home and put on your ‘home’ clothes. You got home did your chores and your homework at evening and made sure you are set for school before dinner.

Our house phone had a cord attached and a rotary dial so there was no such things as private conversations!

We didn’t have Netflix or Youtube, we had only 2 channel to watch DD1 or DD2

We played Cops & Robbers, Hide & Seek, Football, Cricket, volleyball and any other game we could come up with.....

Staying in the house was a PUNISHMENT and the only thing we knew about "bored" was --- "You better find something to do before I find it for you!"

We played music via magnetic tapes on cassette tape players and later on came CD disc players.

We went to the localshop for bread, milk and candy used to be a couple of rupees.

We ate what mum made for lunch/dinner or we ate nothing at all and if we didn’t eat our vegetables there was no dessert or you would not get your share of chocolates.

Bottled water is luxury, we drank water drawn from the wells, first boilet and kept in clay pots or steel pots.

We watched cartoons on Sunday mornings, and rode our bikes for hours and ran around the neighbourhood and met our friends.

We weren't AFRAID OF ANYTHING. We played till dark... sunset and the church angelus bells at 7pm was our alarm .

If someone had a fight, that's what it was and we were friends again a week later, if not SOONER.

We watched our MOUTHS around our elders because ALL of our aunts, uncles, grandpas, grandmas, AND our parents' best friends were all extensions of our PARENTS and you didn't want them telling your parents if you misbehaved! Or they would give you something to cry about.

We respected the Police, Firemen, Ambulance workers, Doctors and Nurses.

We never answered back..... ever !!

We got detention at school for not doing homework, being late to class or being naughty.

Those were the good days. So many kids today will never know how it feels to be a real kid I loved my childhood and all the Friends I hung around with. Good Bless allmissing all those days which we played regardless of gender and no one afraid of sending a girl to any ones house alone and allowing girls to play wth boys ..
Sleeping wth grand mas and sisters and fighting for a bed under a fan ..
And waiting for Sunday evening movie and Friday songs prog and going to frnds house on weekends and forgot eating and never scared of anything and helping frnds and sharing treats wth frnds ..hiding treats frm friends too..oho too many things ..hope all dse days wil be back again

    Very nice post.

One thing is whether one is a kid of the 50s , 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s or 2000s, once they become adults with adulting responsibilities and stresses and their own kids, we all look back and think "Those were the good days." Universal law regardless of era.

    :hello:@Janakinarne
    WELCOME.
ENCORE WITH A post that floods mind with memories of 1950s onwards when I began my schooling in Chennai. Fine narration of events triggering lots of incidents events relations friends fights medals shields winnings accolades approbations rewards and awards.
The yearning for golden days - I mean our childhood days you had narrated nicely.
This post contents should get related very easily with every fellow member here and so too the feedbacks.

Those days with less we felt more. Now the trend is reversed.
With less we felt more happy. With more we have less time to be happy.
There are three things that would never occur together.
They are - yes. You guessed right - TIME, MONEY & YOUTH.
ALWAYS ONE OF THESE would be absent.
When I was young - I had no money.
When I was working - I had no Time.
When I am old - I had no youth.
BTW, if my memories serve better, you delivered naturally - a baby girl in last Nov,’19 & she is around 7 months plus. Trust baby & all members of family in good cheers and in robust health. My best wishes.

    Regards.

GOD - “I spent my whole childhood wishing I were older and now I'm spending my adulthood wishing I were younger.”

thats true. Its just that our roles changed. Not just about parenting, but we have responsibilities. I see the children around us - so much pressure on them to fight the competition, but they are much smarter than I was when I was a child.
Infact, when I see a college graduate, 20 somethings - they are also much smarter than me and plan so much ahead.
Maybe everything changed. The next generation will perhaps be much calmer and relaxed like your post. well behaved, eat early, sleep early and all that.

Rather dn saying they are much smarter we can say dy don’t have any other option ,,they feel bored staying home alone so wil take book or sit infront of comp and start reading and grasping things and acts fast..but I can say in dre lives there is no memories like dre parents and dy don’t hav much frnds and no coordination wth them ..I just don’t want this type of life to anyone ..hav to play and hav to mingle wth others ..now ds generation kids can’t mingle wth others as easy in d same way if some one say anything dy wil react very fast can’t accept anything ..
