I wasn't sure where to post this. Please move it to the right forum. I am visiting Chennai in August and my mother asked me to bring back some stringhopper trays (idiappam trays). She doesn't want plastic trays but those made from natural items such as palmyrah, bamboo etc. I checked out "Essential traditions by Kayal" online but thought it's quite expensive there. Does anyone know any other shops in Chennai where you can buy stringhopper trays made from natural items?
If you are in T.Nagar or Pondy bazaaar - Rathna stores, Sundar metals, Saravana stores are the ones to visit - they would have these steel plates near the idli plates - buy the ones that would fit in your cooker/steamer - so check the dimensions before ! Or the shop itself usually has cookers/steamers of all sizes - you can physically check that the plates fit! Anna nagar side - you have Santosh superstore... Wherever you go, I am sure your nearest steel shop would have these plates
