Episode 75:


Veni was shifted to her room after the surgery. She slowly opened her eyes and Rishi was already sitting beside her looking at her face.

Veni looked at him and smiled painfully.

“Veni….” – Rishi said softly. Veni saw the pain in his eyes. Sometimes only the most painful moments show us the reality. The reality was Rishi loved Veni deeply and Veni didn’t pay attention to that love in the name of household chores.

Veni smiled at him and Rishi was feeling better after seeing her smile.

Veni looked around and Rishi said “They have gone to home. To bring essentials”

Veni was calm and her eyes were still drowsy.

Rishi’s phone rang and it was Veni’s mom.

“Hello…Yeah she is fine now. Surgery over aunty” – Rishi said and Veni didn’t feel like talking at that moment.

She felt like seeing Rishi’s face as such without talking anything or to anyone.

“Oh! How is he now?” – Rishi continued

“What happened?” – Veni asked with her eyes.

Rishi cut the call quickly. “Seems the baby has got dengue and the platelets have gone down. All are worried”

Veni felt bad and she did not talk anything.

So! My mom cannot come at all…She said to herself and kept quiet.

After sometime, her in-laws came and Rishi went home to refresh.

She saw her father in law keeping a big bag on the table. She got reminded of the previous night. Everything seems like a dream. Life changes this quickly? The scene ran infront of her eyes but she still she didn’t understand what made her climb on that rolling chair and how quickly she fell. Everything happened in a nano second.

As her right hand became heavy all of a sudden after falling down, it was her father in law, who took a long satin ribbon and tied her hand along with her neck. Though she was in pain, she was feeling better. She don’t remember having any good memory with him so far…

Rishi reached the hospital before the lunch time.

“Did you eat?” – Rishi asked

“She didn’t feel like” – Her mother in law replied.

“Come on! Eat now Veni! You have got many tablets to have after that” – Rishi said calmly

“Hmmm ok. I will eat” – Veni said softly

“Rishi!.....” – Veni called softly

“Yeah Veni” – Rishi

“I need to go to toilet” – Veni said and Rishi felt bad for her.

“Hey! Come. Slowly. Don’t move your right hand” – Rishi took her to the toilet very slowly.

Everyone thought Veni will be feeling better after the surgery. But the real pain started.



“Rishi…When are we going home?” – Veni was crying. It was her third day at hospital.

“In two days Veni…You will be fine. Don’t cry” – Rishi wiped her tears.

“Its painful Rishi. I thought everything will be ok after the surgery” – Veni

“I spoked with the doctor Veni. Seems after a week, you got to start with physio therapy. It might be still more painful. Stay strong! “ – Rishi

“Rishi…” – Veni cried badly.

“What was the sin that I have committed Rishi?” – Veni cried and Rishi did not know what to respond.

As they were talking, nurse walked in and Veni was trying to wipe her tears.

“By the way, where is your mom and dad?” – Veni

“Dad went to buy medicine. Mom should have gone with him” – As Rishi said his dad walked in.

“Dad! Where is mom?” – Rishi

“Mom? I thought she is here” – His dad

“No! Its more than an 30 minutes” – Rishi

“She might have gone for walk?” – Veni asked

“Her knees were hurting. She wont go” – Her father in law

Then where did she go? – Rishi asked as he got up and he saw his mom’s phone lying on the table.

“She didn’t even take the phone” – Rishi got angry.

As they were talking, nurse said “You are getting discharged tomorrow”.

“But its still painful” – Veni

“Yeah you will be fine! Here after it’s the physiotherapy part” – The nurse said and walked away.

“I will go and see outside” – Rishi walked towards the door and his mom entered the room.

“Mom! Where did you go?” – Rishi asked and she walked in calmly.

She opened a small folded sheet and took a pinch of holy ash and applied on Veni’s head and said “You are going to be fine”. She has gone to temple to pray for Veni. Everyone were quiet.

Veni immediately leaned on her mother-in-law and cried. She did not expect such a gesture from her. As she grew up being showered with all the love and affection from her family, it was disappointing and painful for Veni, when she couldn’t even be with her mom during the most crucial situation. Her mother in law’s gesture became the shower on desert.


Veni cried her heart out. Everyone’s eyes were getting moist….
