Hello friends, I will be attending my graduation function during the summer months in Arizona. I have been a stay at home mom for the past 3 years in US not paying much attention to professional wears. Now that I would like to know about the graduation dress I need to wear for the ceremony. The college doesn't have any strict rules and that women are expected to wear business or business casual dresses. Kindly help me with suggestions. Thanks,
You say that the college has no strict rules and also mention that you are expected to wear business or business casual. So, in a way, you have answered your own question?! A business casual is a good choice as you can wear it later if and when you start a job. There is a fine difference though between a business and business casual. So do check it out. The ladies clothes section of a good departmental store near you will be able to advice you well and be able to help you. Even if you do not end up buying there, it will be a good idea to pay a visit and get informed and have a look at the choice available. Congratulations on graduating. Have a lovely graduation day. Hi Goodwill, Congratulations in advance ....... Having attended quite a few graduation ceremonies here I can confidently say that you can wear any type of clothes. It is upto you to dress up for the occassion either formlly or informally. I have seen students dressed in their ethnic wear also (sarees, kimonos, kaftans etc). I would say a really nice cotton saree in the school colors (if you like them) or that suits your skin tone would serve the purpose. It also depends on wether the ceremony is indoors or outdoors, day time or in the evening. If outdoors and during day... a nice spring/summer dress will be comfortable to wear. If indoors or during evening a black/navy blue formal pantsuit/Skirt will be a good investment if you are looking to join workforce right away. Pushpa
Kanla and Pushpa, Thanks a ton for your valuable suggestions. Actually the dress code is business casual to casual. And I went through some of the sites in search of these dresses. The function is going to be held during the evening hours indoor in the hot and sunny Arizona. I guess I can visit some stores in the mall and take the help from people there. Thanks again for your guidance.
Hi, Anyone please help me.I need to attend my graduation ceremony this week.I would like to wear a Half saree. Is that a good idea??Please suggest.Usually everyone prefers to wear a frock/dress. But I dont have interest in that.Your suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Which country are you in and what course are you graduating in (high school, college, masters?) If you are in India, I see no problem with the half sari at all. However in US, if you are confident to rock a completely new look amidst all the frocks/dresses, go for it. Else reserve it for another occasion that asks for a traditional dress. PS some people I know attending a conference in Harvard wore saris.
I am in United states. I am graduating in Maters .Actually I am confident to wear a half saree, but dont know if it will be good for the graduation ceremony. That is the reason I am asking your valuable suggestion. Thank you very much for your reply.
Congratulations! I would suggest a knee hi or a long summer dress with short sleeve. You wouldn't stand out in the crowd. In Macy's, since it is late summer, simple summer dress would be available under $50.
Wear a nice, conservative dress or formal pants with blouse and good shoes. Rock the half-sari at your own graduation party.
