I used to do the same thing... except it was yesterday's homework, hastily being scribbled 5 minutes before it was due.

I think I get what the "bench" stuff is, but what is this kneeling with hands in the air? Were you guys at school, or Guantanamo Bay?!

 

Sometimes the school janitor doesn't clean the floor properly and sand will grate the knee. But no free hands to wipe it off. :-(
Hands in the air means harsher punishment.

 

Oh Ansuya, you have missed a lot if you haven't experienced that. The pupil has to kneel down and sit next to the teacher with hands straight up and facing the class until the bell rings for that class. Most of the times, we had boys being in that situation. Boys would end up making faces as the teacher talks and was difficult to control the laughter and if caught, would have to be the next one in that line.

 

I dont feel alone anymore in the punishment area...Thank god

 

You are way better! I used to rapidly scribble in the bus to school; my exasperated teacher had to complain in every PTA meeting to my mom that your daughter has the worst calligraphy skills ever displayed in anyone who can use more than one digit(finger) for writing.
