    Hello friends,

I am traveling back to Chennai from Vancouver during the first week of July.I am taking a Cathay Pacific Flight, via Honkong,Singapore en route to Chennai.
Since I have to halt for 9 hours in Singapore, I would like to take up the free bus tour of singapore.I have noted down the tour timings, duration and the procedure. But since I am traveling alone and being middle aged woman, I just would like some more suggestions and advice that would make my tour and halt, more comfortable and trouble free before starting off to Chennai .Can any of our friends help?

There is a transit hotel at the Singapore airport itself. They rent it out in blocks of 6 hours. It is very nice to be able to take a shower and lie down on a bed and rest for some time. The rooms get booked very fast so you should email them in advance at the site below to book your room. They have locations in all the terminals so best to book at the terminal which your flight is from.

    Ambassador Transit Hotel

If you don't want to rent a room, they also have shower facilities near the transit hotel. I think it is 8 Singapore Dollars and they provide you with towels, soap, shampoo and some juice/tea.

If you have hand luggage that you don't want to take on your bus tour, you can leave it at the transit luggage place. They charge a very nominal fee per bag and keep your stuff safe.

The tours themselves are very nice. The only tour where you can actually get off the bus is the sentosa island tour.

Apart from this there are tonnes of shops at the airport, which is more like a mall. You can easily spend a few hours browsing there!

    Hope this helps!

    Hi kaluputti,

I went to Chennai about 3 years back in Singapore Airlines from SFO. Of course the stopover was for 8hrs. I travelled alone with my 2 sons then. It is a very big airport. We can also convert the currency here...if we plan to buy something to eat/drink.

As soon as we landed down in Singapore, we exchanged currency & had something to eat. Then proceeded to the customer service, enquired about this bus tour.

They have lot of kiosks throughout the airport and we were directed to the exact one incharge of this tour. Don't worry, Kaluputti, you will find lot of Indians in this airport and sure, someone will assist you.

There was a big line for this..they have 2 types of tours (mentioning the places). We can choose either one. Then they give us the tickets with the details and time the bus departs.

We need to assemble back in the spot at that time, we are asked to go through security and give the passports to authorities. Again, there are so many indians here..so no problem. We won't feel alone.

We are escorted out of the airport by our tour guide to the bus. The bus is air conditioned. A welcome relief..since Singapore is hot and humid..just like Chennai (that's what we felt in the peak of June) Better to buy some water in airport..since in the shops outside..they are expensive.

They take us on tour...with stops for a boat ride. Mostly we are inside the bus and we are explained about the history of Singapore till its development today. It is quite interesting ( if we are in the mood for it). But my kids were little bored since they were so tired from the flight journey. We also lose track of time, then there is the jet lag too.

After about 2 hours, we are brought back to the airport and have a few more hours to kill. Of course, they have tv, wireless spots throughout the airport. There are also many South indian restaurants in the upper level. So, be sure to check them out. Some people take 2 tours (in total they spend 4hours). But with 2 kids, I didn't want to take chances since I was not familiar with the formalities. Also they are in different timings too !

But, it is surely worth going atleast one tour rather than sitting inside the airport for such a long time.

Then there are lots of shops, which you can browse/buy and pass the time. The perfumes are pretty good. Of course, Tiger balms are available here (which is a favorite for many of us)

All the best kaluputti !! Sure, you will find some friendly passenger to travel with you.
Sorry for this long post !

    Cheers
    Krithika

    Hi Kalupatti

Many transit passengers who are flying through S'pore just come out for shopping. If you're also keen on it & have more than 6hrs then come out, take a cab go to Little India ( Said Alvi road)... get in to a restaurant eat your favourite food item & just walk in across Mustafa Centre for shopping! Time will just fly out...best way to kill time here is to do shopping...even widow shopping keeps you busy!

On the other hand, if you've have only few hours...take a break! Changi airport itself is a great paradise. It has a multitude of activities for every age group, you can go for body massage, foot reflexology, free internet corner are available, 24/7 duty-free shops & there are plenty of entertainment Lounges.
For more details...look in to this website
