    Cheeniya sir,

Quelle horreur! I missed this one till this forunate moment.

And what an active and varied picture you have painted with the morning walk piece! I am reminded of the one I read and enjoyed in college, I think it was by GK Chesterton. Your piece is just as awesome.

You have covered almost all the joys and jeorpadies of a morning walk. I must add the occasional bore who buttonholes us in the midst of a sweating, aerobic power walk to share the finer details of his mappilai's promotion in the US!

Keep em coming Cheeniya sir! You rock and roll!

    regards
    Vidya

And Vidya again this time comparing me to no less than GKC himself!
Its going to be tough for me to maintain this tempo with the kind of expectations you place on me!
And you keep increasing the height of the pole!

Let us shake hands on a piece well written and a piece well appreciated.
(Well, the glove is sometimes velvet, sometimes iron. This piece warranted the velvet side).

Basically, the bar in IL for writers is very high. Which is amazing since IL is not excatly a literary site. The good side is we get to read sterling works by starwalts like Nuggehalli Pankaja, Varalotti, Ambika Anant, Cheeniya, Tamildownunder. Bad side, a wannabe writer like poor V 24 can hardly dare to post her work in IL.

    See u round!

    Dear Cheeniya Sir,

The detailed picture that you have drawn about your morning walks is simply great. Seems to me morning walks are definitely a peril in Adyar area along the coast.
Now coming to the pleasures of the evening walk that Chithra posted. I have a tough decision to make, when I come to Chennai next month for good. Whether to go for morning or evening walks when I move to the Adyar area... or stay off both and just visit a gym hmmmmmm...

    Regards,
    Jothi.

    Dear Jothi
If you want to avoid being bitten by a stray dog, avoid morning walk!
If you want to avoid being mowed down by a speeding truck, avoid evening walk!
Best option is to go to Maverick and remain in Shipshape!

    Dear Cheeniya,

That was one awesome writeup. I could visualize what you have written. Though not familiar with the Chennai scene, I am familiar to the Mumbai Morning walk scenario. We used to live in the suburb Bandra, and before they built an specific "JoggersPark" so to speak, we used to go walking on the famous "Carter Road" daily in the morning. Apart from the perils you speak of, the worst one we had to face if we didn't not faint was the fumes from the sea of dead fish etc.. and ofcourse the numerous slum residents who made it a point to use the road as their public toilet!! :bang

Well after the Joggers park was built, it was so much more nicer to go for morning walks. This was about 16 yrs back. Don't know what the scene is now!.

As for me, the best place to walk nowadays is on my trusty treadmill catching up on the latest " weeping contest" on Suntv!!

    Vandhana
