This is an eye awareness article. My son was diagnosed to be myopic(near sightedness) and we took him to School for Perfect Eyesight, Pondicherry. It's working under Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry.

Dr. R. S. Agarwal is the ophthalmologist as well as a sincere devotee of Sri. Aurobindo. So he practised his profession there in Pondicherry and cured many eye patients in a mere time of a week r so. Till now, his followers are teaching the eye routines that he used to cure the eye problems.

He has written few explanatory n famous books related to eye care n his treatments. Two important of them are Mind and Vision and Yoga of Perfect Sight.

They can be reached at

Mr. Santosh,
The School for Perfect Eyesight,
2a, Lally Tollendal Street(Rue Lally Tollendal),
near Taluk office,
Pondicherry 605002
email: auroeyesight@yahoo.com
ph: 91413 2233659

They checked his eye problem, his exact prescription is given. Then, they ask him to attend a set of eye care routines for 14 sessions twice daily for a week time, each session one hour each.

After the treatment, 0.5 diopters reduced when they checked after a week of eye care routines. They asked to continue the eye care routines till he is completely ok.

In order for all to get awareness and benefit, I am posting the complete knowledge I have in these eye care routines and related information for the benefit of all. But do visit them for an effective treatment.

Habits useful n needed for preserving eyes:

1. Blinking

2. Relaxation by palming and swinging

3. Use glasses only when needed

(Myopic patients needs it only to view at long distance and Hypermetropic patients needs it only to read closer objects)

4. Reading under candle light, dim light are good to eyes but believed that the reverse is good till now or is being propagated wrongly till now

( The reason is when we read in bright light, esp. Fluorescent lamps of any variety, apart from the contents we are reading, our eyes also has to accommodate and bare the glare of bright light that falls on the paper which is a strain to our eyes actually that does not happen in dim light and candle light. Our forefathers who read in candle light never wore specs).

5. Reading Fine Print( photographically reduced images) in both good and dim/candle light is very effective to smooth eyes rather than straining.

(The reason is when we read bigger letters, we need to widen eyelids which is a strain to eyes normally. But when we read fine/small letters, we can read it only when our eyes are relaxed and comfortable. We do it by taking the book/contents closer to eyes which is again good for eyes. WE ARE TAUGHT WRONGLY TILL NOW THAT SMALL PRINTS, DIM LIGHTS, CANDLE LIGHTS, TAKING BOOKS CLOSER TO EYES ARE A STRAIN TO EYES BUT THESE ARE ALL REALLY RELAXING OUR EYES.)

6. Reading SNELLEN's Test chart( the chart we see during our eye checkups) is very good for our eyes.

(The concept is, when we read some unknown text, there is a fear in mind and so is a strain for eyes. This is the major cause for kids to develop myopia during school days.

When we read this chart daily, at home and paste the same chart at school ( near the board) and practice by reading text from board and books only after doing chart exercise, our mind will be used to these characters and so will be relaxed n confident and so our eyes are relaxed. When in such a relaxed state, if we view the board or books, all the letters are clearly visible even if not before.)

Habits harmful to Eyes:

1. Not blinking or winking

2. Strain or an effort to see(effortless seeing is called observing which is relaxation to eyes)

3. Using glasses all the time

4. Reading under bright electric lights

5. Reading big print books

Discoveries of Dr. R. S. Agarwal and Dr. W. H. Bates:

1. Accommodation in eyes are controlled by external eye muscles called oblique muscles and not by the lens.

2. Refraction frequently changes

3. Myopia/Hypermetropia can be produced at will

4. Strain at a distance causes Myopia

5. Strain in reading causes Hypermetropia

6. Relieve the strain to improve the eyesight

Importance of Vision and Imagination:

1. We see in the brain through the eyes. That's why it's rightly called by sages n all as "Eyes are the seat of soul" and a " window to the inner world".

2. Vision is the interpretation of retinal images and that's the interpretation of our mind. Our mind is in our eyes when we are awake and in liver when we takes rest. That's why Chinese prays eyes and liver as very sacred.

3. The white centre of the letter 'o' appears whiter then the margin to any good and normal eyes.

4.What we see, we remember

5. What we remember, we imagine

6. What we imagine, we see

7. So, Perfect Eyesight is the co-ordination of seeing, memory and imagination.

Eye Education:

1. Sun Treatment: improves health and mind

2. Palming: gives relaxation to eyes, mind and nervous system

3. Central Fixation - develops acuteness of vision

4. Swinging - develops mobility in the eyes

5. Blinking - quick method to rest the eyes

6. Strain or Stare - causes of visual defects

7. Relaxation - cures the strain

Proper usage basics of the Eyes:

Eyelids:

Upper eyelids should remain downward, keeping the eye only half open always.

While looking upwards or in - front, the upper lids should not be raised, but only the chin.

It's very important for the myopic patients to keep the lids in the right position.

develops mobility in the eyes

Blinking:
The upper eyelid comes a little downwards to cover the pupil and is again raised. Should blink at least 10 times a minute.

Reading:

Keep the book at the lower level of the chin so that the lids are not raised. Then, blink twice at least in reading one line.

Fine Print:

Reading it without straining with the dimmer the light in which it can be read and the closer to the eyes it can be held, the greater the benefit.

By this means, severe pain in the eye has been relieved in a few minutes, even instantly. Because, it can't be done unless the eyes are relaxed.

It even cures Presbyopia. It can be done in candle light.

Writing:

keep the sight on the point of the pen tip and move your sight with it's movement and blink frequently. Not to look at the previously written back letters.

Sewing:

Move eyes with the movement of the needle, both up and down of the needle to the cloth. It relieves the strain.

Cinema:

Sit erect comfortably. Keep your upper lids down while raising the chin a little and blink frequently. Don't keep the lids raised and don't stop blinking.

White Line:

The white space in between the lines of print is called the White lines. Look at the white lines of fine print of the reading test type. Shift your sight on the white line just below the line of letters, from one end to the other. Blink gently at each line. Make no efforts to see the letters.

Now, letters above the White line will appear more distinct than before.

If if the letters are visible, the mind will automatically view and read them, it's ok. But an effort to see them should not be there.

Benefits: Improves the reading sight and relieves the pain and discomfort of the eye.

Holding distance of Book:

It should be within 10 to 12 inches from the eyes for children. 10 inches is normal. Good if able to read books in candle lights. The power of artificial lights should not be too powerful. In that case, the glare from the paper used to cause pain in the eyes.

Blinking and reading fine print soothes the eyes. Moving head side to side and blinking twice in each line is a good practice.

Vision:

It is a process of mental interpretation of retinal images. So, mind, eyes and act of seeing are so closely associated. Eyes without mind'll mechanically photograph the image, but will not interpret it.

Mobility:

Developed by blinking, long and short swing, ball game, table tennis, badminton, walking and observing the objects beside one moving in the opposite direction. Mobility relaxes the eyes.

Central Fixation:

The concept of it is to see or focus what/ where exactly you see more clearly rather than trying to see the object or space in whole. SNELLEN's Eye testing chart is used beneficially for this purpose.

Focus on each letter's top and immediately sifht the sight to bottom, blink once, then sifht from bottom to top of the letter

Effect:

1. The letter appears to move in the opposite direction.

2. The part of the letter regarded appears clearest.

We can sight similarly our focus/sight between left and right side of the letter in the above manner.

Imaginary Exercises:

Purpose of it is to improve or develop the faculty of interpretation of retinal images.

1. Take the chart in hand and observe that the white centre of letter 'o' appears whiter at a distance where the sight is best. Gradually increase the distance.

2. Take 2 similar charts. One in hand and the other in 5 feet distance. Look at the White centre on the near chart and then at the distant chart. Alternate.

3. Shift the sight on the white lines in between the lines of the fine print. When the sight shift from side to side, the lines of print appear to move in the opposite direction.

4. Take view cards and develop the art of seeing.

5. Running around the chair, bouncing the ball helps to get good eye sight.
