    Dear friends,

This is going to be my fifth month in London away from Malaysia. There were lots of ups and downs in my life during the last 5 months. To be precise the first 3 months here was like hell to me. I was helpless to myself.I went through lots of depression and mood swing. Enviroment work lifestyle food people.... I dont know why it was so difficult to cope. I was a person whom was very active in my country. Able to do thing on my way. Had good time management.Life was balance

    But here I just couldn't:cry:

    Is that norm?
Any of you all had the same feeling too?

It would a great if you all could share your experience abroad with me.

    Thank you
    Regards
    Thilaga:oops:

    Hi Dear,

Sorry to know about your difficulties in coping with life in an alien land. But believe me, it happens to almost everybody but the extent of difficulties vary from person to person.
You know dear, women are very sensitive but strong, they just don't like to be disturbed. They have their own niche, small or big but they used to love that. So, we generally face problems like depression when we are moved from our own place. But I bet within few months you will find this place good and when you will have your own circle of frds and society, you will love it. This behaviour is evolutionary, even animals can feel the change and we have more advance intelligence than other group of animals, so we have a higher chance to feel the change.
I came to USA around 1and half years back and you won't believe, I lost a considerable amount of weight even if I was taking good/nutritious food but it was my mental condition, that made me feel home-sick eventhough it was my decision to move to USA for a better career. And also, if I compare the life style of mine in USA vs. India; no doubt, I have a better living standard here, also I have no stress related to In-Laws/relatives, but in some corner of my heart I missed those things, so I got depressed and even at times I thought seriously for some councelling but just then I made some frds, talking to them, going out with them made my life easier in USA. And above all, you are in IL team and here you will find lot more frds for you.
So dear, be happy and don't waste time in depression, go out, look at life, accept the way it comes. I am sure after some years you will be able to give the same advice to other frds who will be sad due to relocation.
Take care and lots of love to you.
    Regards.

    Hi Tilaga,

I agree with you and meetha, when I started my work here I was in depression for almost 3,4 months. It took me over all 6 months to 1 year to get adjusted to the lifestyle especially the socialising bit at the work place. I was a confident lady back in india and even before I found my job here..The main reason i guess is lack of friends at your work place, because we come from a completely different background. All my colleagues were really nice and friendly to me but sometimes I couldn't understand what they were talking, some jokes didn't make me laugh when they were really enjoying it. Its all because they can all relate to what they are talking. But for us it will take time to understand and mix into them.. Once you make friends you will be alright..

Just be positive and it will help you when you realise that you are not alone in this position, everyone will go through it. I understood from your previous post that your husband will be joining soon, so dont worry once he is here you both will have a fab time.. Be positive and take care..

Shravanti and meeta are absolutely right , when you move to a different place it is difficult at times to adjust with the surrounding, the people, their culture , specially in a country like UK, USA etc where our culture back in India is entirely different from their's .Once you have friends you get to know more people go out with them you will feel better. So Thilaga , don't worry you are not the only person facing this problem, there are many others too.Try to be happy and enjoy your life.:wave

    Hi Thilagavathi,

Cheer up .... Dear!! i guess majority of People undergo this Stress & Depression, in their intial phase when they move to a new Country ... . I have moved from India to US just 6 mths back and even i was in the same Boat.

I have heard many people comming out with same kind of Problem... maybe its coz of the diffn in Culture,Location and No one to share our feelings. But guess as time goes we will get adapted to this Kind of Lifestyle Too....

    cheers
    vaidehi

    hi padma
i can understand what u r going through,i used to feel the same some 4 yrs ago,but now i have kind of got used to the life style here......best thing to do as to be positive and start to work, even if its part-time or voluntary or start on some sort of course of ur interest,i am sure things will change.........
and vaidehi has rightly said all this is because of diff. culture, location and loneliness..........
    take care
    manisha
