I can suggest you. as your in laws are very restricted you mentioned about salwar kameez you can wear cotton out fits modest light print or light sweet colors not rocked by more yellow and red like colors. Avoid wearing silk, sattin and chiffon like glossy cloths in front of them you can wear those when they are not in front of you.

you should wear full sleeve modest kameez with relatively large dupatta. Don't wear short kameez it should be at least knee length. Wear traditional modest salwar.

I just like to add something Piu. You shouldn't wear churrider (skin tight pyjama) in front of them go with losse pleated salwar. lower portion of kameez where two sides spited should not be more splited try to keep it with in 8-10 inch.
