The Britishers were shrewd enough to visualize the future of their rule in India since the rise in Revolutionaries and the participation of intellectuals lilke Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Veer Savarkar, Subhas Chandra Bose.... in the freedom struggle so instead of getting kicked out by them and give birth to a strong nation which would have been dangerous to their existence.They Preferred to handover the nation by dividing it.. The Non - Violence movement which also demanded freedom under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi did not aquire much momentum in Goa which was under the Portuguese rule. Hence, Military force had to be used to throw the Portuguese regime In Goa , Daman and Diu.
