    I organise as per below:

Based on Genres, languages, study, leisure, educational, authors, hard bound/printed/comics wise.

More than me, my daughter loves reading........... We bought this book-shelf after making rounds and rounds of visits to various furniture shops and was not satisfied either with the color, or size or convenience even at Ikea. Atlast we identified this in Home Centre. It is a prized possession and we are so proud of it and more so on the collections.

We have the entire collection of Harry Poter, Historic, Hindu epics, Chetan Bhagats, Ayn Rands, John Gresham, Tom Clancy, Twilight Series, Lord of the Rings, Chicken Soup for the Soul, Sydney Sheldon, David Baldacci, Dan Brown series and many more.

I am thankful that you brought this important topic into a contest.

    Best Regards
    Shanti

    Hi Custard,

Nice to see your Book shelf, a lot of religious material, it reminds me my grandfather's bookshelf, he too has a very good collection of religious books, I intend to read them. By the way, I noticed 'Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda' set in your shelf, have you read it ? I am still reading it. DO reply.

IL this is a really innovative idea of contesting Bookshelves. great work.:thumbsup

    Hi Custurd

Your book shelf looks very neat and a large collection of tamil spiritual books. I like the terrace hut. In fact when I was young and in my teens, my father had covered a portion of the terrace of our independent home with thatch and we go up there and sleep in the afternoon, play during summer holidays. My grand father used to sit and read all religious books there. We had two big wooden chairs, a folding mat etc. there to relax. Unfortunately on a dark night, it got damaged due to fire. Then my father did not lay the thatch again.

We also had a similar book-shelf in our home with very large collection of books in Delhi. We gave it away to my SiL when we moved to Dubai.

So your pic reminds me both my memories.

Best of luck for the competition.

    Best Regards
    Shanti

    Hi.. here come my bookcase..

    http://www.indusladies.com/forums/members/103220-albums2006-picture8842.jpg

Living in a small apartment in US I have not been able to get a proper larger bookcase to organize my books. Infact am running out of space to keep them. The height of the last rack is small to arrange the books hence the haphazardess arrangement, Am still to get my hands on some of my favourite authors to add to my bookshelf, though I have read them in the library or borrowed from friends. Its a habit for me to read before going to bed. The books that I have read I keep them together on the right hand side of the shelf so that I can keep track of the books that am yet to read. Also I try to keep the same authors books together but sometimes that varies depending on the height and hardbound cover of the books.

As you can see I have lots of novels - thriller, suspense, romance and more, few educational books, 3-4 books on health, an autobiography, cookbook and magazines.

    Hello Shiva,

Thanks for your comments! I have not read that book. I usually read small books of Swami Vivekananda, like "The School", "The Teacher", 'The Student', etc.

Nice to know that your grandfather too has a big collection :)

Re: Showcase your bookshelf contest - August 4, 2010

Here is my entry showcasing most of the shelves I could click to present our favourite room at home ...Our little Library which we like to refer to as the DEN.
We are a family of booklovers and these books have been collected through our globe trotting years from different parts of the world by DH during his diplomatic postings abroad.
DH is a voracious reader and his favourite hobby is writing. He has written 8 novels in Malayalam out of which one was a hit on the silver screen in the 80's.
He has an excellent collection of the English classics ...Sir Walter Scott,Charles Dickens,Jane Austen, George Eliot. R.L.Stevenson,Oscar Wilde etc.,good reference books on religions of the world, plus Encyclopedias.
PG Wodehouse , Henry Cecil( Legal) and Richard Gordon(Medical) offer a fund of humour and Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes collections add to the mystery and suspense section along with Agatha Christie & Edgar Wallace.
The prized possessions are works in original Russian by Gogol, Turgenev, Chekhov, Tolstoy,Dostovsky and in French by Anatole France, Victor Hugo, Flaubert,Mauppasant etc.
There is a separate section for all the Nobel Laureates , the pride of place being occupied by the German author Gunter Grass whom we had the good fortune to interact with during our posting in Berlin in 1985.All his books in original German have been personally autographed by the celebrated author himself.
DH has a massive collection of all literary masterpieces in Malayalam ofcourse many of them also personally signed by the authors themselves.Being multi -lingual, he has a shelf specially dedicated to the Tamil masterpieces , works by Janakiraman, Jayakanthan, Kalki,Akhilan,Sandilyan etc.,
For our grandaughter specially , he recently added a series of childrens favourites like Heidi, Little Women, The wizard of Oz , Black Beauty and the entire Harry Potter series.
Besides all these we have heaps of comic books ...Archies,Mickey & Donald , Tom & Jerry which have become now quite yellow with age !! Dating back to the early 70's....
All the best sellers of today, Jeffery Archer,Sidney Sheldon, Dan Brown, masterpieces by Paulo Coleho& Orhan Pamuk nestle snugly side by side.
So we have a little treasure house catering to all ages and tastes.
It was my honour and pleasure to spend a couple of delightful hours in this DEN with two good IL pals .Malspie and Sabitha_K who visited last year.

Here are the links to my album and pages for the pictures of our DEN.
The pictures here show how the books have been arranged under different categories.

    Hi Paulina

I like the mail. I would love to visit your DEN, to see your collections someday.......... Where are you based in?

My daughter loves reading more than me and all our collections are mainly by her except the tamil or non-english language books.

    Your book-shelf truly inspires me.........

    Good luck to you.

    Best Rgds
    Shanti
