This is something i got thru mail & got me thinking abt the role of media and how far they are doing justice to it.

So, thought of sharing it with IL folks.

Shame on Indian Media??? Really what a shame...

By the time u guys read this news, the body of Major
Manish Pitambare, who was shot dead at Anantnag, would
have been cremated with full military honors.

On Tuesday, this news swept across all the news
channels 'Sanjay Dutt relieved by court'. 'Sirf Munna
not a bhai' '13 saal ka vanvaas khatam' 'although
found guilty for possession of armory, Sanjay can
breath sigh of relief as all the TADA charges against
him are withdrawn' Then many personalities like
Salman Khan said 'He is a good person. We knew he
will come out clean'. Mr Big B said "Dutt's family
and our family have relations for years he's a good
kid. He is like elder brother to Abhishek". His
sister Priya Dutt said "we can sleep well tonight.
    It's a great relief"

In other news, Parliament was mad at Indian team for
performing bad; Greg Chappell said something; Shah
Rukh Khan replaces Amitabh in KBC and other such
stuff. But most of the emphasis was given on Sanjay
Dutt's "phoenix like" comeback from the ashes of
terrorist charges. Surfing through the channels, one
news on BBC startled me. It read "Hisbul Mujahidin's
most wanted terrorist 'Sohel Faisal' killed in
Anantnag , India . Indian Major leading the operation
lost his life in the process. Four others are injured.

It was past midnight , I started visiting the stupid
Indian channels, but Sanjay Dutt was still ruling.
They were telling how Sanjay pleaded to the court
saying 'I'm the sole bread earner for my family', 'I
have a daughter who is studying in US' and so on. Then
they showed how Sanjay was not wearing his lucky blue
shirt while he was hearing the verdict and also how he
went to every temple and prayed for the last few
months. A suspect in Mumbai bomb blasts, convicted
under armory act...was being transformed into a hero.

Sure Sanjay Dutt has a daughter; Sure he did not do
any terrorist activity. Possessing an AK47 is
considered too elementary in terrorist community and
also one who possesses an AK47 has a right to possess
a pistol so that again is not such a big crime; Sure
    Sanjay Dutt went to all the temples;
Sure he did a lot of Gandhigiri but then........ ...

Major Manish H Pitambare got the information from his
sources about the terrorists' whereabouts. Wasting no
time he attacked the camp, killed Hisbul Mujahidin's
supremo and in the process lost his life to the
bullets fired from an AK47. He is survived by a wife
and daughter (just like Sanjay Dutt) who's only 18
    months old.

Major Manish never said 'I have a daughter' before he
took the decision to attack the terrorists in the
darkest of nights. He never thought about having a
family and he being the bread earner. No news channel
covered this since they were too busy hyping a former
drug addict, a suspect who's linked to bomb blasts
which killed hundreds. Their aim was to show how he
defied the TADA charges and they were so successful
that his conviction in possession of armory had no
meaning. They also concluded that his parents in
heaven must be happy and proud of him.

Parents of Major Manish are still living and they
have to live rest of their lives without their
beloved son. His daughter won't ever see her daddy
again. Finally Major Manish, to my generation is a
greater hero, someone who laid his life in the name
    of this great nation.

So guys, please forward this message around so that
the media knows which news to give importance, as it
is a shame for us since this Army Major's death news
was given by a foreign TV channel!!!

This is such an true and unfortunate aspect of reality in India.

The true heroes who are spilling their blood for their country are forgotten - but the pseudo heroes ( who are actually real-life villains ) are cornering all the glory.

Same thing happened when Aamir Khan did his terrorist portrayal in Fanaa - here is a guy who plays a terrorist killing Indian soldiers and wants to blow up India with a nuclear device, and the gullible Indian audience lapped it up.

Not only that, many people were criticising Gujarat govt for banning Fanaa

God save India - because at this point only He can do it :icon_frown:

    Hai,
you have opened up a very vital issue. I was too very angry when I read that Sanjay said he has a18 year old daughter and she is in the US.
Here, many innocent people are being killed by terrorists and militants like they are chopping vegetables. Their spouses and children do not even have any guarantee about their life. And here he is saying that he is the sole bread winner of the family, the son of Nargis and Sunil Dutt, film actors themselves and political leaders, Sanju a star acting in many movies.
The media, particularly in the North, give more importance to the film stars.
The news about Ash and junior AB getting married, my God, they both have had many fiancee's, had broken engagements, boy friends and girl friends and what not. Their getting married was the main news in many of the channels like NDTV etc.
God forbid, if there is any problem in their married life also, that will be made int news and cashed in. It is really so very disgusting.

    HI

I feel the same. Take the one on KBC, a poll on who is better, Shah Rukh or Amitabh. Found it disgusting what with so many participating and giving their views. Not sure which news channel.

There are so many other important issues, but no, they have to go and highlight such issues (does it really matter who is better). :bang

Ya, ladies, even i feel so disgusted how these film personalities are made to look like gods and goddesses.....even here in germany, the leading newspapers are cashinh in all the bollywood news...they also have the photos of these screen actors and so much importance to all this .......
I hope soon our tv channels will realise this an dtry to get the real people who sacrifice or do great deeds, and televise such shows, and create a REAL world with reality than create so much fuss with this REEL world , and project fantasies . Our younger generation who is being exposed to only these heroes, and heroines, are fooled into thinking that only this is the real world.....something has to happen soon and change .Media has to be more responsible.
Thanks RAGINI , for posting this fwd.....it really upsets us when we stand by helplessly watching the MEDIA!

    Hi Ragini

Remember the time when we had only Doordarshan, the " poor, dull DD " often accused of being a Kisan-Kethi Darshan ? And decent, straightforeward newspapers giving real news in black and white without colours ? Those days are gone forever.
We now have 24 hour newschannels competing with one another with as much razzle-dazzle and noise as they can muster. Newspapers have become tabloids, colourful, heavy with supplements and sponsored sheets and also competing for Top-Sales figures. They look for a sensation in everything and if there is isn't one, it is no news. A very sad state of affairs indeed.
There's just one handful of newspapers that still retain their dignity and reliability , but sorry to say, I dint get to read of this news item you have quoted even in those.:icon_frown:
But who is to blame ? The publishers or the readers ?

:bangcomp: ( P.S. See that as a smiley hammering the Media, not the computer)

Yes, it is a BIG shame indeed. I have not seen the indian TV news, but I can imagine your frustration and feel it too.
It is the same in US. Predators, murderers and beauty queens and movie stars hog the headlines.
    Highly regrettable.

Yes, Ladies , Shame on the media.
What they want is the cheap publicity only the film and the cricket world can give.
All these days it was Ganguly, and Chappell and they were the ones who created the problem and after that who is the best captain, should dravid remain or either ganguly or sachin to take over.. As if they are the ones to decide who is to play for India..
Then came amitabh- sharukh who si better at kbc. Sharihk as usual crying I am the best and the media saying that he is losing ratings now..
After salmankhan and his buck killing, and a killing spree on the road , it is Sunjaydutt and his AK47.. and his innocence. Those who play with guns are not innocent.
The real heroes like the Major go unheard.. What can we do about this?? We can write only here.. Will they (Media) hear it ??
Nowadays I don't even watch TV, I just hate the sight of it.

    Latha :wave

    Hi! Ladies,

    Thanks for all your responses.

Yes, now-a-days 'reel' life heroes & heroines seem to dominating the headlines in the media rather than the 'real 'life heroes who lay down their life for the sake of our country.
I still remember, a few years ago- the birth of Sachin Tendulkar's daughter made headline news in one of the news channels!! I was flabbergasted to say the least.

It's high time they (media) woke up & got their priorities right & we can do our little bit by spreading the word!! What say IL??

    Cheers!

    Ragini
