    dear shama,
    usually I stock a lot of things like different coloured paper, ribbons, paper punches, stickers, stencils etc whenever I see these. In these cards I have used coloured paper, tied it with matching or contrasting ribbons, made butterfly shapes with matching punch and finally made a simple design using a stencil and a little paint.
    you have great scope for materials in US, try some art store where you will get a lot of such materials
