There was a documentary on the tv here mentioning a condition called semenal plasma hypersensitivity. In this condition, a woman has an allergic reaction to her partners semen which can cause typical allergic reactions including swelling, blistering, pain and potentially it could cause death if the allergic reaction is too great. If the couple is using condoms, this allergic reaction will not happen but with unprotected sex it can immediately be experienced. If this is occurring, the woman will not be able to get pregnant because her body will kill the sperm. A Dr. Bernstein at the Univ of Cincinnati has developed a treatment similar to allergy shots where a pooled semenal donation from the partner is used to prepare the shots. It is felt that this treatment will be effective in allowing the couple to have children.

You are welcome RG. Although this condition is rare, for those who have it this information is very important.

Yeah I have also heard about this problem. Last time when I went to the hospital and there I saw a lady who told me that she has this problem. And for her she was undergoing IUI.

    Yes Hemadurga

Yes, that patient told me like that. She said she was married for about 3-4 yrs and they found out about this sperm allergy and that is why she is undergoing IUI. And this was in a famous doctor in Chennai specialised in infertility.

The allergy is not actually to the sperm but to the semenal fluid. If an allergy occurs, it can make sex very painful for the woman. The lady on the interview on the newarticle said that on a pain scale one to ten it was a fifteen. If her husband wore a condom, she was fine. According to the website, after the shots are administered (allergy shots), they are then encouraged to have relations as least a couple times a week in order to keep the shots working. IUI may be helpful for getting pregnant, but it does not help in the underlying problem of the allergy.
