    Dear Shaishav,

    My son is 11 months old now, i am planning to save for his education. I can put in some 30k /year. I am confused to go for a ULIP or some LIC Insurance policies like CHILD Career or Mutual funds. Can you pls suggest some investment plan.

    Hi Kalyani,

    You have a lot of time before you will need this money. If you are planning for your kid's college education you have 16 more years.

    Do not buy any LIC policy or ULIP. Just invest this money in a good mutual fund like HDFC Top 200. You can invest 2500 every month which is 30K a year.

    After 16 years your total investment made will be 4,80,000 and you should have 20,00,000 @15% assumed rate of return.

    Dear Shaisav,

    Thank you so much for the advice. I just started one SBI MF (Emerging Business Fund) last month. This is planned for Short term returns say 4 years (thought will be use full for kids school admission fees as it is very high). Now i will start another one what u have suggested for kids future.

    Hi Kalyani,

    I would suggest you to go for a balanced fund for 4 years time horizon. HDFC Prudence is the best fund in this category. Emerging business fund will be risky. So time to switch.

    If you are asking me for investment for your kids college education. I would suggest HDFC top200 and HDFC Equity fund. Growth option.

    Never try to save always try to invest.Inflation being at 10% savings doest provide u many returns.

    Hi,
    I want to know whether PPF canbe opened in the name of new born child 2-3 months.
    His parents are NRI.
    Child is born in India. Decided to take him abroad after 5 months
    This PPF as a gift from their grandparents.
    Please clarify me.
