    Hi Friends,

    Kindly clarify the below.

    1. Is falls required for all type of sarees?
    2. Do we have different types of falls? If so, which style should be used for which type?
    3. Do we have styles in saree edging also?

    hi behappy
i personally feel we should put fall for all sarees as it prevents tearing and adds volume and pleats come good.
i dont know about different fall types and here the shop we buy saree from , they only put the fall.
yes edging can be of different styles. ruffeled, with threads and many more.

Yes different types you should buy for cotton cotton ones for synthetic synthetic ones and so on also thik or thin border you should select and get it. Edging depends on you how you prefer.

    1. falls gives that added beauty to the fall of the pleats at the legs. and does protect the bottom like cutemonsters says.

    2. you have cotton, synthetic.. earlier we used to get these broader falls that give more stiffness to allow the saree to stand better when starched..but these days the length is almost same for both cotton and synthetic falls.
ensure you wash your falls once before giving it for stitching..that way the wrinkles when you wash will be lesser..

    3. saree edging..you can fold and sticth, that is the regular edge..you can get a pico edging, or you can get the tailor to rip a few lines and get tassles.. this looks good on handloom sarees..but you loose a few inches of the saree length..

    hi,
yes falls required for all saress, even for silk sarees, then only the pleets will stand up correctly,if you buy cotton falls then you have to soak it in water for some time and drip it and you should iron it to avoid shrinking before stitching.if you buy synthetic falls no need all this you can stitch it dircetly.
yes you have different styles in saree edging, one is running stitch as usual one ,and some different stitches i forgot the name ,overlock type i think.
