Reading your posts I feel my MIL is a doppelganger of your MIL.
Most of the topics you mentioned never really worked for us as well.
Basically, in every conversation, she has to emphasize that she is super smart and others are super dumb. I can still work with it, but the problem is she stretches her arrogant conversations for so long that I have to leave the scene altogether.
I might have to actually spend some time with her this year, so your post is very helpful. I am thinking of sticking with the topic of saries, endless beauty treatments she has undergone in last year and may be few conversations around her relatives. Let us see how it goes.
