We salute this STEP TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY! Place- Jamshedpur India. What do you do to help the environment? Road made from waste plastic - Good way to recycle the plastic and preventing further damage to the environment. According to the contractors, 90% of bitumen is amalgamated with 10% of plastic that includes everyday waste ranging from carry bags to miscellaneous items like biscuit and gutka packets. These products are shredded into small pieces and mixed with the liquid before laying it on the road. Plastic-cum-tar roads are 25% better than unmodified roads & almost 200% resistant to soaking up water. The maintenance cost is very low, while the durability is high. The roads reportedly need no repairing for at least 5 years.
this is not the first road of this kind . pune was the first city to get this type of road in 2011..and i think it was the brain child of a iitian..in 2008..and now most states are following the same initiative.
