Hi Hi friends,

I am Gowry, we are planning to shift to <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" />Abu Dhabi.

I need all of the friends in Abu Dhabi to help me get some basic idea about the cost of living in abu dhabi. I will be thankful to all my friends in this regard. Your advice will help us to take a decision.

a) 1 B/R flat rent
b) transportation cost (initially by taxi)
c) Grocery & other house hold expenses
d) electricity, water & telephone
e) any other you think I should consider

Kind Regards,
GOWRY

Hi Gowry,

At the present the cost of living in Abu Dhabi is very high.

A 1BHk Flat would cost you not less than 100,000++ Dhs in the Main City. Flats in Shahama, Mussaffah, Manasir would be slightly cheaper, but then again you spend time travelling to the city.
Villas (Sharing) at Murror, Khalidiya, Airport Rd, Khalifa City wld be an economical option.

The basic meter fare is Dhs 3.00 from where it add .50 fils each km depending upon the distance you have to cover.
But now the Auh Govt has introduced the bus service as well. The bus service is free till the end of this year & nxt yr onw it will be chargeable as they will introduce more buses & cover more routes.

Grocery is normally available at most of the marts: Fathima, LuLu, AdCoops.
Adil at Electra is the best & only place for Indian groceries, spices, etc.
Other household exp wld generally include laundry bills, domestic help, kids schooling, occasional entertainment exp,

The power bills don't amount to much roughly around Dhs 100 or less if its a centrally airconditioned bldg but if its a split A.C. or a window A.C. then it might soar a bit.
In some housing contracts this would be covered in the annual rent itself.
Hope I hv answered ur queries to some extent.

hi gowri, welcome to IL & ABUDHABI. i totally agree with daffodil, abudhabi is little more expensive
1. studio flat starts - dhs 75000
2. single bed room in muroor area - dhs 1,10000
3. my opinon you better choose sharing accomadation, it's starts with dhs 3000+ water & electricity
4. gowri you choose your accomadation depends upon your husband work place , if he was in the city , you choose city side like madinat zayad, always best, where ever you go you reach soon in madinat zayad.
5. he was in city outer you choosse muroor, baniyas , mussafa like that area.
6. transporation is not a problem here
7. medical & education is little expensive
you have any doubts ask us, gowri you look accomadation www.gulfnews.com property page you get good one.

Hi Gowry,

Welcome to Abudhabi. Where are you relocating from? From India?

Here the main part of expense goes only to house. Single bed room flat costs not less than 1,00,000 diram per year. If only couples then you can go for sharing. If you have kids then sharing is little difficult because the kids will not have place to move around except your room. Other expenses like grocessories and vegetables will not go more than 750 dirams for couples.

It is better to look accomodation near to your husbands work place because you need not wait for taxi daily. Because getting taxi during peak hours is also difficult in abu dhabi.

Bye
Geetha
