Twin joeys were born last month at the Lincoln Children's Zoo to Matschie's tree kangaroos Milla and her mate Noru. They were found in Milla's pouch last month, and count as two of the four documented Matschie's tree kangaroo births last year. Kansas City Zoo zookeeper Jacque Blessington says only about 50 of the animals exist in North America. In the wild, they live in the rain forest in northeastern Papua New Guinea. The babies are expected to begin poking out their heads or feet as early as May.
Hi Srini,:hiya That was a delightful piece of news......must confess I did not even know about this exotic rare species called tree kangaroo......only knew about the huge kangaroos of Australia. Isn't she a cutie ? Such a cuddly one ...looks like a cross between a teddy bear and a huge squirell ! One can never cease to marvel at the Great Master's creations ! :thumbsup Now we'll wait till May to see the twins emerge and peep out of their Mama's cosy warm pouch.
Thats fabulous for the species, we have kangaroos everywhere here where I live in country Australia, I only have to drive about 5 mins out of town to see them in the wild, they are taking over. So they need to be culled (Controlled killing) as they are pests and eat all the grass that normally would be reserved for domestic animals. Now before you all jump up and down, it has to be done, and there are plenty of them here so they are not likely to dissapear any time soon lol. Cheers Deb.
Haasini, Paulina and Viji, A happy information admist the endangered species of the wild/world..indeed.. Ozzie, It is true that those who experience know it better..but if we hear any such news of disappearance of any species..it is a sad one...but to maintain an ecological balance..there are ways to balance it.. sriniketan
