On the outside of Amritsar is this significant historic birthplace of Lav and Kush. It is the spot where sage Valmiki's ashram stood and this is a sacred place for the Hindus where we get a glimpse of statues illustrating scenes from the Ramayana. The place gets a special mention in the great Hindu epic "Ramayana". It was here that Sita came after Rama deserted her. It was here that the great saint Maharishi Valmiki gave her shelter and protection. Mata Sita gave birth to twins "Luv"and "Kush" the great sons of Lord Rama. Maharishi Valmiki conducted them to highest levels in education in the realms of religious and social life besides intricacies of warfare.

Ram Tirth of Amrtisar is Known to be the land of Rishi Balmiki. It takes us back to the era of Ramayana. Found around 11 km away from the city of Amritsar, the holy shrine has an interesting past. Consecrated by the appearance of Devi Sita, Ram Tirth had been a witness to the birth of the sons of King Rama.Another prime attraction of Ram Tirth in Amritsar is its four day long fair which is organized from a long time. Today, a large number of tourists across India come to visit this exotic place.

Swami Ram Tirth, Indian SaintAmong the very few great Vedantic scholars that India has so far, the name of Swami Ram Tirth, is definitely one of the most notable ones. He was born on 22nd October 1873 at Murli, Gujaranwala (now in Pakistan) and his father`s name was Pandit Hinachant, who was extremely poor. He studied and mastered the languages like Urdu, Persian and Sanskrit and he also stood first in the B.A. However, he refused to appear for the I.C.S. examination, as he was already inclined towards spiritualism by that time and he got attracted towards the Himalaya and set out to travel there, at a later period.

In his childhood, Swami Ram Tirth made Father Scott, spellbound with his extraordinary knowledge and he was drawn towards spiritualism just after finishing his traditional education. He also announced renunciation at a very young age and then became famous all over the world in the year, 1901. He went on for a world tour after that and went to Japan in the year 1902 and enthralled the public there with his wonderful way of preaching.

The Ram Tirth temple is situated at an approximate distance of 11 kilometers to the west side of Amritsar. This temple is believed to be the dwelling place of the mythological narrator of Ramayana, Rishi Balmiki. This temple houses an old tank and many other temples. The places that highlight the importance of Ram Tirth are the hut where Luv and Kush were born, bathing place of Mata Sita and the hermitage of Rishi Balmiki- the mythical author of Ramayana. Ram Tirth temple has created a proud history for itself and is one of the prime attractions of Punjab. The four-day festival that is celebrated at this temple mirrors the glorious historical past of this city. A visit to the Ram Tirth temple allures the tourists with its magnificent architecture and the serenity of its surroundings. This temple cannot be missed while planning a religious tour to Punjab.
