PrePackaged Goodies

Dear ILites
Since keeping the Golu I have been quite busy with cooking , puja etc. My dear husband very kindly bought me these tiny plastic kumkum and chandan on green leaf so very cute for giving away to ladies. I am sure i am probably the only one giving away such simple items whereas everyone would have bought all fancy fancy to give. anyways so at the last minute i rushed to fill the small container with kumkum and opening I saw that they came PREFILLED. one small cup had kumkum and the other cp had chandanam filled. OMG I was so excited that I danced (really the floor did not break) Because they are selling like this for ME.
I am now so conditioned to having everything either readymade or pre packed that I dont know or forget to fill these items. How about the sticker rangoli?? Boy when I discovered that they sold these I ran and got an assortment to stick everywhere some years back. the sticker pottu and pre made mehandi paste . Why go so far when tamarind paste came into being I sure did the readymade DANCE now recently I saw bisebhela bath 'paste" its ready made and just add rice Am i a CELEBRITY or what? How did these manufacturers know that I am out there ready to gobble up all these ready mades or prepacked ANYTHING/ I am quite sure that there is no one like me outthere which probably makes me unique but seeing how these products sell is anybody else out there????????

Hi ac,

Good one....now you can get the whole tamboolam as per your budget..from ladies specialising in that in chennai.....look into the hindu it is screaming about buckets of biriyani for eid...payasams and sundals for navarathri.....

how did you forget the ginger-garlic paste, the tomato rice powder, the lemon rice powders, the ready to serve parathas, the gravies.....the curries............

they have lot of takers...but all this come for a price and side effects.....

for example the prefilled kumkum may not be quality one and could give allergy..(no it is really something to think about...)

Well i am against all this readymade foodies, the joy of making them dies...it makes lot of us lazy...again this is my personal opinion.....
(I know my this particular fb is going to get real bats from all those ladies who are working...just a sec ladies...i was also a working .....before i decided not to.:tongue.)

Dear AC,

I thought these are there for quite some time now...

However with regard to food items, u get readymade parothas to pongal, mixed rices, pulav's everything now... All you have to do is just heat it and gulp it... This is of great help to forced bachelors like me.... :thumbsup.

But the issue is, these things can be taken once in a while and not on a regular basis... The preservaties added in these items is not good for health in the long run...

Nice dance, AC. I can visualise only..:-D
But I second what Veda and Shanthi has written. Once in a while it is OK, like if guests peep in suddenly or if you had run out of the 'original ingredients', etc.but in the long run...
I am using the 'tamarind liquid' only for 'bathing' our idols. This is the only pre-packaged thing I use. all others are home-made.

Hi AC,

May be you are getting these things in your place only now. Next time when you come to India and if you are allowed you can take the following it is really useful
1) Lemon rice mix - AAchi - Its easy to prepare for office goers and bachelors
2) Anand Bhavan - Kara kuzhmabu paste - mix and eat
3) Coriander thoku - Ambika Appalam brand and also 777 brand
4) Puliyodre mix- avaiable in paste and powder form - 777, mtr,etc

There are many many, but i dont know what other things u feel u need and that you dont get there.

Hello All
Its always with extreme interest I read the replies and views of others. You a re all so right about side effects and such.Here in my grocery store they sell veggies cut up. But my initial reaction was that we are getting accustomed to prepacked. atleast I am. They might be small but there are many that way. Like Drive thru that is a conveneince. Or ATM that to me is big time convenince. How about answering machine or the new caller id. At home in our t.v. we can tape any shows that we want and see when we want to.Not necessary around food but around life so many such things are cropping up most we fail to notice or take for granted but helps. I feel this list is endless.
