thanks again. Yes as you know, i follow a lot of the relationship columns and i would say although i consider myself truly openminded, IL has definitely played a role in understanding the other person's point of view also.

Dear viji maami,
yes I definitely intended to reply separately. What u have said about children wanting to have and live their own lives without too much interference from parents/ in laws is very true. That's why we were quite ok with our elder son settling into his own flat with his wife and son, although we are both in the same city. We continue to have a very good relationship with our son and DIL and hope for the same with our to be DIL.
