I told them if they get admitted to the hospital because of their own foolishness, they get to lie there alone because I don't even have a flight to get on right now. They still take it very lax. People traveling and coming home. Mom saying as long as they go shower right away it's ok. No masks or social distancing of any kind. Sending pics. I feel sandwiched between the two stubborn annoying people and the teenager in college. Actually the teenager in college has be religiously getting tested prior to coming home. She's better than the parents who just don't seem to care.

My parents are the opposite. They have become complete hermits and refuse to even go visit my sibling and their grandchildren in a nearby city. I hope this wretched disease gets under control soon.

I also have been preaching a lot, not just to my parents but brothers sis in india but somehow they have this excuse - It is reducing in india.
My old parents go everwhere in crowds, no mask. My mother went to gatherings and father too. My brother/sis/their spouses go to malls, restaurants, have family functions etc. They go to temples.
No one is bothered. They feel they will recover if they get it.
My brother had got it, he recovered, luckily no one got from him, inspite of no isolation.

My In laws are having same attitude..they think if cases reduced in India it means corona Pandemic is over...they’re saying that everyone is travelling everywhere let us also go...it’s been a real pain to make them stay out all these days ( theyre staying jointly now with us)..they don’t bother about the seriousness of the situation..and they’re mocking me if I’m taking extra precautions of not socialising, going out , not entertaining visitors and sanitising things bought from outside...they’re both blaming me for the fact that they couldn’t travel anywhere or entertain relatives only because of me..if I say corona they’re sneering at me and saying that I’m making excuses..they think if they inhale steam and take bath and take hot water and have certain spice concoctions they’re hundred percent immune to infection...I know those who’re working in essential service and have to travel to workplace daily have no choice..but retired and elderly with health issues need to stay indoors and step out only for essentials with precautions....really I feel for you OP..

I too hear that same dialogue that here everything is normal not many cases are positive as like the US.

@Anusha2917 OMG! I can't imagine how much stress you might have gone through. Same case with my inlaws. We went to India last year Jan and this covid news broke down after a month or so. DH & I thought it's better to stay here rather than travel at this time. Later we understood we did a big mistake first lockdown was keep on extending and also not able to control inlaw's habit of visiting neighbors, relatives(who in the same street). There will be a huge fight If we try to tell them to stay at home. As soon as we left India inlaws stated roaming freely they and mil's 2 sisters and their husbands went to Srisailam and got tested positive and spent more than a week in the hospital. Gods grace they are OK now.

Ask your sister to be very very careful. It is better not to depend on your mom for any sort of help.
My mother stays very close and all this arrangement was made so that I can get help with looking after the baby and I can go back to work. But then now I am taking minimum help from my mother and decided to not involve her much with respect to baby. Learnt the lesson the hard way!!

Forget about coming from the US. :grinning: Staying in the same city Me n my sibling had to leave parents in the hospital without visiting them. Off course I was myself in home quarantine. The hospitals anyway don't entertain anyone outside visiting the covid patients. So my sibling could hardly help out in anyway.

Anusha - I’m just glad you are able to login to your original ID.
Anyway, life has come full circle. Telling parents and them doing as and how they please is sweet revenge for all those teen tantrums. I need to make note of it for future use!
