You can use the following ratio and get dosas (not so exceptional but good tasting).

Long grain rice - 2 cups
    Parboiled rice - 3/4 cup
    Urad dal - 1/2 cup
    Methi seeds

Try this and hope it helps.

    Hi

I also got this long grain rice a while ago,but neither idli or dosa came out good, found a hard time while making them,so i use the rice for making upma kozhakattai or arisi upma, or making rice kanji..

I'm surprised to hear this. Because I've been using this long grain rice for 1.5 years for both rice and idly dough. I'm totally happy with the result. I don't have any problem in making idly or dosa.

    Rice : Urad dal = 5:2 + 2 tblspoon of methi seeds.

I'm getting super soft idly/dosas. Also, the rice is pretty cheap when comparing our own idly rice.

    All the best! :thumbsup

Have you tried dosas? Dosas are generally much more forgiving than idlis.

When I came to US, I didn't bring much rice. Also, the place we stayed didn't have any indian store. That was when I started using this rice from Sams. I'm using it for lunch (everyday) and Idly/Dosas. It saves me lots and lots of money. Now I can't think of spending a huge money for a small bag of rice.

I don't have any problem in dosas.
