What oil do you use to light diyas at home on daily basis ?
We were trying idhayam nallanai, but it's expensive to use so regularly, since then we have been using normal canola oil ?
I am not sure if it is okay to do so. I am looking for tips.

I too use idhayam nallennai for lighting lamps....and i have heard mum say that this is good for home. Ghee is the best.

Other types of oils should not to be used like coconut oil, refined oil or whatever...

i have heard there is a mixed oil is also good. five types of oils mixed together especially made for lighting lamps. (panja deepa ennai)

    hi there!
I have always used ghee for diyas. I know a lot of people use oil but personally I have never tried it.

    Thanks,
    Oopall

I make ghee at home using the Land O Lakes butter we get from stores. Ghee is believed to be the most pious for lighting God's diya.

I have been using Vegetable oil / canola oil for lighting.
It lights well . I believe in purity of mind rather that what oil to be used for lighting lamps. So i think it depends on your own decision .

the only problem i've been facing is , the brass lamps gets even more sticky within a week, due to the oil . So Cleaning becomes labor-some for me .

    Hi Ranchu,
You can spray thelamp with Awesome cleaner and just leave it for a couple of minutes. It gets rid of the sticky. Awesome cleaner is availabel ar Dollar Store or 99C stores. I have not been able to buy it anywhere else.

    Thanks,
    Oopall.
