Dear EQ,

You are right. FYEO expressed it in simple words. This was one of my very first stories published in Anandhavikatan. In those days Vikatan was considering stories like this for publication. This story is in my short story anthology and in my spiritual book.

One of my lawyer friends after reading the story wrote a post card to me(in 1998). In that he had written that, "You have told the world that love for a fellow being is more sacred than thousand years of tradition followed by a spiritual organisation."

Hi Shrika,
I have been observing you for the past several days. You were reading all my serials - Love All, ALS etc.

When my book was reviewed a few weeks back somebody asked me what was the highlight of my writing career. I told the lady it is not the time when I see my writing in print, not even when an award is announced for my story, but when somebody writes to me or calls me to tell, that reading my story showed them the way or gave them a peace of mind.

Last year a person called from Trichy to tell me that his son had been pestering him for a bike. And that he gave my story "Appa Manasu" for him to read. And after reading the story the son stopped asking him for a bike. That was a highlight.

And now when you tell me that my story was able to change your bad moods, its a high point in my writing career, something I can include in my CV.

Thanks for your love. And thanks for those great words which am sure will inspire me to write more and better.

Shrika, the next episode in OMG is going to be special. That is due on 1st May 2008. Please don't miss it.

I was in a very bad state the last few weeks , anger,hatred and so many bad things in my heart. Dear Pooja,
First things first. I will pray for you today and tomorrow as well (for my prayers tomorrow will have manifold effect; you know why.. keep guessing till tomorrow, or until you read some other thread in some other forum) that your husband should be as loving as Arvind. He should have you as the pupil of his eyes, love you and take care of you. But in the meanwhile, Pooja, you should also be as loving as Yamini. I pray my Lord (and will pray tomorrow as well)that you be blessed with a very sweet, healthy, happy and peaceful married life.

I love this story the most of all my short stories. This was published in 1998 in Anandha Vikatan.

If you had watched Swamiji you would have observed that he refused even a Royal invitation because a thousand years of his tradition will be broken. But did not hesitate to break it for a mentally ill person. It was that love that cured Basheer.

People naively think that it is the medicine that cure our diseases. They just facilitate the cure. It's love that really cures.

I am happy that you liked the Rasam Rice and Raw plantain roast. The plantains are not fried which is different. They are soaked in chilly powder and salt and gently roasted on the tawa.

Pooja, two things are really special and you should not miss it. One is the next episode due on 1st May 2009 and the other is the .. well it's a surprise. Watch out this space tomorrow.Tomorrow is a special day for me.

It is the power of god that pulls us to him when he thinks now... its the right time for him to walk towards me...as he pulled Dr.Ragavan(a person who treated all saints as frauds) ,god wanted to change his attitude towards the sawmiji's...:coffee

The incident between swamiji and basheer was really moving....smamiji did not care to break the law for a normal person...who offered him food....we must learn to love all beings like this....

i think i am late in giving by feed back. but i cannot help it.the impact of that fiction was such that i cannot
come out out of it. such is the narration.swamiji is swamiji in the real sense." Anbhilar ellam thamakku uriyar: anbhudaiyar enbhum uriyar pirarkku." he is the personofacation of this kural. "gu" means darkness"ru" means removing thedarkness. Like this swamiji took away the "karmic effect" of the basheer by eating the food given by him. I think, i am right.In this fiction, you threw light on the unity, humanity and what not. not only the doctor, but also me shed tears on reading the news about swamiji. shed tears in joy, when an insane turned sane human was the cause of stopping the riots.This much only i can expressmy feelings. thank you so much.

I was a bit disappointed when Swamiji let Raghavan skip the queue . But when he told the reason , I was thrilled :

“No, my son. They have come for their own personal reasons. You are in the business of serving people. For me you are the most precious VVIP. I am sure you would have come for somebody else.”

Swamiji has proved that love is the only medicine ( which can cure ANY disease ) simply by accepting the coarse food Basheer offered him ! Love can do wonders , miracles ! Even the meanest person can be converted into an honest person , if shown genuine love ! The story is a very touching one ! மனித நேயத்துக்கு ஒரு மகத்தான உதாரணம் ! :thumbsup

Dear Sridhar,

I saved this to read at a conducive time and today it was!
Even if it wasn't , I would have made it so just to please our dear writer today of all days!! You know why

You have once again treated us to a very delightful story of your's.

Compassion and love of fellow human beings is easily said than practiced. It is very difficult to be nice to some neighbor whose pass time it is to throw stones at your window. It is equally tough to love a mother-in-law whose life's aim is to keep the dil from spending time with her spouse. But, if Only we could do that, it surely will take us to a higher plane of life.

The characters in this story did not sound fictional at all to me. The description of the Swamiji brought Chinmaya before my eyes! Basheer diverting a communal riot and swamiji passing away on the same day does give me goosebumps. I felt like I was reading the life and times of a great saint.

Very well written and there is always a lesson to learn and a wonderment after reading these episodes.

Thanks for the same and I am all ready for the surprise!

I can never for my life forget the love and affection you ladies are pouring over this fifty plus mofussil accountant. (I completed 51 years of mortal existence today)

The birthday thread started in my honour and the words you have used to greet me have made me cry. One kind lady called from Singapore this morning to wish me. The time was 6 15 in the morning and that was the very first greeting call.

I have to thank Malathy and Jey as but for them how come a NRI in Singapore would know about a Mofussil Accountant in the wrong side of fifties?

It’s a great blessing to be remembered on one’s birthday by so many meaningful, wonderful people spread throughout the world.

I can neither thank you adequately for your love nor thank my Lord enough for conferring this rare blessing on me. But I cant help making some childish attempts to express my gratitude.
Last year I remember making a return gift to you in response to your birthday greetings. I also explained the concept of a ‘return gift.’

(Those of you who were not there last year please go to the archives and read that.Those of you who cant locate it, please ask for a link. And those who can, please post the link here in this thread).

The return gift, as you may remember, was a poem which read by all, appreciated by many and even criticised by some.

The reason for criticism was not defective poetry; but the poem talked of death and that too on one’s birthday. And if the appreciation was borne out of love, your criticism of the poetry was borne out of greater love.
This year I am attempting make two return gifts. One today and the other this Friday, that is <st1:date year="2009" day="1" month="5" w:st="on">1<sup>st</sup> May 2009</st1:date>. Well, you all know that the next episode of OMG is due on Friday and this time I have made it very special as to constitute that as a return gift.

But the one I am going to give you today is even more special. Yes there is going to be a special birthday edition of Oh My God!
